RCC Apprenticeship FAQs
An apprenticeship is a structured training program that lets you learn a skilled trade while you work. You’ll receive paid, hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced professionals, combined with classroom instruction to build both technical skills and theoretical knowledge.
How do I apply for an apprenticeship?
To apply, visit the RCC Table Rock Campus to pick up and turn in applications. You’ll need to provide basic information and documentation showing you meet the minimum program requirements. Some programs may include additional steps such as an interview or placement test.
Visit the program page for your trade to learn more about the specific application process.
Who is eligible for an apprenticeship?
Eligibility requirements vary by program, but generally applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or GED®.
- Complete one year of algebra (high school or equivalent) with a grade of “C” or better, or place into an equivalent math level.
- Women and minorities are encouraged to apply!
What kind of support will I receive during my apprenticeship?
You’ll have access to a full support system to help you succeed, including:
- On-the-job training from experienced mentors.
- Classroom instruction that reinforces what you’re learning at work.
- Regular evaluations to track your progress.
- Guidance from RCC staff—we’re just a phone call or email away.
How long does an apprenticeship last?
Most programs take 2 to 4 years to complete, depending on the trade. This includes thousands of hours of on-the-job training and hundreds of hours of related classroom instruction.
Will I be paid during my apprenticeship?
Yes! Apprentices earn a wage from day one. Pay rates vary by program and industry, but you’ll typically receive competitive wages that increase as you build skills and advance through the program.
Can I get hired after completing my apprenticeship?
Many apprentices are offered full-time employment with their training employer after completing the program. You’ll graduate with valuable credentials, real-world experience, and a clear pathway to a rewarding career.
Are there any costs associated with the apprenticeship?
In most cases, apprenticeships are paid training programs. Out-of-pocket costs may include tuition and fees, textbooks or materials, but in many cases employers help cover training costs, making it an affordable way to earn a credential.
How do I know if an apprenticeship is the right choice for me?
An apprenticeship is a great fit if you want to:
- Learn by doing rather than sitting in a traditional classroom.
- Earn while you learn.
- Build a solid foundation for a high-demand career.
It’s an excellent choice for hands-on learners looking for a direct path into the workforce.
Is acceptance into an apprenticeship instant?
No—acceptance is not immediate or guaranteed. After applying, you may go through interviews or other selection steps. For some programs, you may be placed on an Applicant Pool List and contacted when openings occur. The timeline can vary, so it’s best to maintain your current job while you wait.
Do you offer apprenticeships for people with no prior experience?
Yes! Many of our programs are designed for beginners. You’ll receive all the training and education you need to succeed in your chosen trade.
Can I change my apprenticeship program once I’ve started?
In some cases, yes. If you find a different program is a better fit, you may be able to transfer to another program, depending on availability and guidelines. Talk with your program coordinator to explore your options.
