RCC Apprenticeship Programs

What is a Registered Apprenticeship?

A Registered Apprenticeship is a proven way to launch your career while you earn. These programs combine paid, hands-on experience with classroom learning, so you build real skills while working in your chosen field. Approved by state or federal agencies, each program meets rigorous industry standards. When you finish, you’ll earn a nationally recognized credential that shows employers you’re job-ready.

Why Become an Apprentice?

Apprenticeship programs offer a powerful way to build your future while you work. Local demand for skilled workers is growing, and apprenticeship gives you the training and experience employers are looking for.

As an apprentice, you can:

  • Gain practical, hands-on experience through supervised, paid on-the-job training.
  • Earn while you learn in a high-skill, high-wage career pathway.
  • Increase your pay as your skills grow, with opportunities for career advancement.
  • Earn college credit toward a certificate or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree through required classroom instruction.
  • Graduate with little or no debt, since you’re earning a paycheck while completing your education.
  • Stand out to employers by mastering the precise skills needed to help businesses succeed.
  • Enter a high-demand field, with strong local employment growth—especially in construction and other skilled trades.

Program Expectations and Support

As an apprentice, you’ll learn your trade through a combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction, working and learning side by side. Your hands-on experience and coursework build on each other, helping you master both concepts and practical skills.

Classes are typically held in the evenings, with some offered during the day or on weekends. In some cases, employers may help cover the cost of training, making it even more affordable to complete your program.

Getting Started

Application processes and requirements vary by trade, but most programs require applicants to:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED®.
  • Complete one year of algebra (high school or equivalent) with a grade “C” or better, or place into an equivalent math level.

Visit the program page for your trade to learn more about specific application steps.

Applying for an apprenticeship can take time, and spots are limited. For some programs, being placed on an Applicant Pool List does not guarantee immediate employment—candidates are contacted as openings occur. It’s best to maintain your current job while waiting to be called.

Participating in a pre-apprenticeship program through your high school, SOESD or the Crater Lake Electrical Training Center is a great way to explore whether an apprenticeship is right for you while gaining valuable hands-on experience and skills. Please note: Pre-apprenticeship programs are not a direct entry into RCC’s registered apprenticeship programs.

The application and selection process is regulated by state and federal labor agencies, not RCC. However, we’re here to guide and support you every step of the way.

Training and Advancement

Apprenticeship programs require time and dedication. You’ll complete thousands of hours of on-the-job training and hundreds of hours of classroom instruction. As you progress, meet required hours, and receive positive evaluations, you’ll advance through the program and increase your pay—a process known as “re-rate.”
