Access Confidentiality Statement
Access and Disability Resources (Access) at Rogue Community College is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students who seek our services. Our goal is to ensure a supportive and accessible learning environment while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.
Scope of Confidentiality:
- Student Records: All records related to a student's disability and accommodations are considered confidential. These records are maintained separately from academic records and are only accessible to authorized Access staff.
- Disclosure of Information: Information regarding a student's disability will not be disclosed to faculty, staff, or other parties without the student's explicit written consent, except in circumstances where disclosure is required by law or is necessary to protect the health and safety of the student or others.
- Communication: All communications, including in-person conversations, phone calls, emails, and other forms of correspondence, are treated with the same level of confidentiality.
- Accommodations: Information about the accommodations a student receives will be shared only on a need-to-know basis with those involved in implementing the accommodations, such as faculty and relevant staff, and will not include specific details about the student's disability.
Exceptions to Confidentiality:
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, we may need to disclose certain information to comply with legal obligations.
- Safety Concerns: In situations where there is a significant and imminent threat to the health or safety of the student or others, relevant information may be disclosed to appropriate parties.
Student Rights:
- Access to Records: Students have the right to review their records maintained by Access. Requests to access records should be made in writing.
- Consent to Disclosure: Students have the right to provide written consent for the disclosure of their information to specific individuals or entities.
- Confidential Consultations: Students can discuss their needs and concerns with Access staff in a confidential setting.
