The RCC (Rogue Community College) Nursing Program application process will utilize the following selection criteria and point system for all RCC Nursing Programs unless otherwise noted.
Applications will be available online on Monday, December 1, 2025
Applications accepted: December 1, 2025.
Application deadline: February 15, 2025, 11:59 PM.
Phase I
Prerequisite GPA (Grade Point Average):
Applicants must provide official transcripts from all previously attended regionally accredited colleges or universities with proof of a minimum of 28-quarter credits of the required prerequisites to include BI 231 and MTH95 (or higher math)to qualify to apply. RCC students do NOT need to submit RCC official transcripts. Refer to the Nursing web pages for required prerequisites/preparatory courses. Prerequisite/preparatory courses completed before the program application deadline will be utilized to calculate the GPA and assignment of points in the selection/admission process. GPA points will be rounded to hundredths and assigned using the following range table:
ADN Program (minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0):
3.67-4.00 = 25 points
3.33-3.66 = 23 points
3.20-3.32 = 20 points
3.15-3.19 = 17 points
Practical Nursing Applicant (minimum prerequisite GPA of 2.5):
3.67-4.00 = 25 points
3.33-3.66 = 23 points
3.20-3.32 = 20 points
3.15-3.19 = 17 points
3.00-3.14 = 14 points
Local Criteria:
Completion of Anatomy and Physiology
- 2 points – completion of BI231, BI232, and BI233 (A & P with labs) completed prior to the current application deadline.
Prior Degree:
- 2 points – official transcript providing proof of an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Completion of prerequisites:
- 2 points - Completion of ALL OCNE prerequisite and preparatory credits (45+) before the application deadline.
In-district Residency (Requires proof of residency ):
- 4 points - Josephine or Jackson County residents.
Veteran Status:
- 4 points - Military veteran (with proof of honorable discharge) or active service (e.g., National Guard).
Requires DD214, NGB 22, or proof of current military service, such as an LES.
Work Experience in the Healthcare Field:
- Up to 15 points - may be awarded for paid, hands-on patient care experience within the past five years, supported by a current, unencumbered state license or national certification. Eligible roles include CNA or CMA (OSBN registry), LPN, respiratory therapist, EMT, paramedic, nationally certified medical assistant, or armed services medic/corpsman. Points will be awarded based on verified work experience in these roles. Points for work experience meeting requirements above will be awarded as follows:
- 900-1248 hours = 6 points
1249-1872 hours = 9 points
1873-3744 hours = 12 points
≥3744 hours = 15 points
- 900-1248 hours = 6 points
- Applicants with other Oregon or national healthcare certifications may submit a Healthcare Work Experience Form with proof of licensure/certification, required work hours, and an explanation of how their role involves hands-on patient care and relates to nursing practice. Experience will be evaluated for relevance, with 0–5 points awarded.
- No points will be awarded for work experience if the applicant does not submit proof of state licensure or national certification with their application, or if the applicant submits licensure/certification and no Work Experience Form (or incomplete form).
Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test:
- Applicants are required to complete the TEAS exam online, proctored by ATI, and must submit a copy of their ATI TEAS Individual Performance Profile results. Please note: the TEAS is not offered at the RCC campus. To register, create an account at www.atitesting.com.
- TEAS results must be within the previous two (2) years of the application deadline.
- Repeat testing is allowed as long as there have been two weeks (14 days) between testing dates.
TEAS selection points will be awarded as follows:
*Exemplary (92 – 100) - 16 points
*Advanced (80-91.9) - 11 points
*Proficient (58.7 - 79.9) - 6 points
Phase II
Essays:
- The top applicants for the Associate Nursing Degree Programs will be invited to sit for one essay session.
- PN applicants are required to sit for the essay as part of the application process.
The Essay portion of the application will consist of multiple scenario-based questions for response. The Essay is worth a maximum of 30 points to be added to your Phase I score. You will not receive a copy of your Essay score. The Essay portion of the application is scheduled for April 15 and 16, 2025, on the Table Rock Campus in White City, Oregon, Building A, Room 125B. ADN applicants invited to complete the Essay portion will receive an email notification to reserve their time slot no later than April 1, 2026.
*All applicants will receive notice of their status by April 1, 2026. If you do not receive an email, please contact the nursing office AFTER THAT DATE.
Note: Per OCNE Guidelines, applicants will be notified by June 1 of their admission status. Admitted and alternate students are required to respond by June 15 of each year to confirm their acceptance and secure their seat. Alternate students will receive notification throughout the summer if there are changes in their alternate status. The program reserves the right to adjust the number of students accepted based on the availability of instructors and clinical sites, and delay notification if unforeseen circumstances arise.
