RCC's Let's Talk Program
What is Let's Talk?
Let’s Talk* is a service that provides easy access to informal, confidential one-on-one consultations with RCC counselors. There is no appointment or fee necessary. To find the schedule of available dates and times, either contact the counselors directly or check RCC's Counseling Department bulletin boards.
Let's Talk FAQs
This service is open to all currently enrolled students and RCC staff. Let's Talk is especially beneficial for:
- students who are not interested in personal counseling but would like the perspective of a counselor
- students who have never been in counseling before, are not sure if it’s right for them, and wonder what it's like to talk with a counselor
- students who have a specific problem and would like to talk it through with someone
- students who are interested in learning more about what campus resources are available to them and how to access them
- staff members seeking consultations on supporting students with personal challenges
- staff members who are dealing with personal challenges and need assistance exploring options and accessing resources
If you believe you need to be seen sooner than the appointment you were given, it's best to call the Counseling Department and get connected to the counselor on call.
If you need an earlier session, contact your counselor directly to see if they can accommodate you sooner.
Since Let’s Talk does not offer ongoing counseling, it’s important to follow up with the recommended referral or seek other counseling options if ongoing support is needed.
Let’s Talk is a useful resource for informal consultations but does not replace formal psychotherapy or counseling. It is designed to help students with specific issues and to introduce them to counseling services. Your Let’s Talk counselor can guide you on whether formal counseling at RCC or in the community might be beneficial and assist with scheduling appointments if necessary.
Conversations with Let’s Talk counselors are confidential, with a few very rare exceptions. Counselors may need to share information in an emergency when there is an immediate threat of harm to self or others. Counselors are required by law to report when a minor, elderly person, or someone otherwise incapacitated and unable to act on their own behalf is being abused. Brief notes are kept by the counselors, which may be shared with RCC staff in emergencies or if there is a referral to RCC Counseling. Notes may also be disclosed if required by a court order.
We don't want anything to be a barrier to students accessing help. If you have further questions about confidentiality, we encourage you to discuss them with a Let’s Talk counselor.
For additional questions, please contact our Counselors.
