Once you've made the appointment, you will need to complete our required New Client Forms prior to your appointment time. We generally can respond to you within the same business day. Please note that the Counseling Center is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the College is open (please refer to the Academic Calendar for RCC closures).

Makiko Barrey

Makiko has provided counseling and taught Human Development and Career Guidance courses at Rogue Community College since 2008. She was born and raised in Japan and is bilingual and bicultural. She earned her M.S. in Applied Psychology from Southern Oregon University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. Her areas of interest include cultural and multicultural concerns, life transitions, career and identity exploration, mood issues, math anxiety and holistic student support approach.

Julia Fisher (She/Her/Hers) has Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Oregon State University (2006) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Julia is a board approved clinical supervisor for registered associates. She is the Counseling Department Coordinator and has been at RCC as a counselor since 2012. Prior to her career at RCC, Julia worked in a variety of settings providing therapy to people of all ages and from all walks of life, including residential care, after-hours crisis emergency services, local non-profits, and in private practice. Julia also taught psychology courses at RCC prior to working for the counseling department, and continues to teach CG100 in her role a counselor.
Julia has focused much of her therapeutic work on sexual assault, trauma recovery, and mood and anxiety issues. Julia is trained in EMDR, a type of therapy that has shown profound effectiveness in healing from emotional distress caused by traumatic life experiences. Julia brings warmth, compassion, and a person-centered approach to counseling sessions, and she operates from a trauma informed and humanistic lens. Julia feels that she has truly found her calling working with the students of RCC to help them navigate through life’s inevitable challenges as they work towards achieving their educational and career goals.

Michelle Gray LPC

Michelle has a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Southern Oregon University (2006) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), in the state of Oregon. She has worked for RCC since 2006 as an instructor through the Human Development and Career Guidance department as a counselor in the counseling center. She has taught College Success and Survival, Finding the Money: Scholarship Essay Writing, Career Guidance/Exploration Courses, and Math Study Skills. In the area of counseling, Michelle enjoys working with people from a variety of age groups and backgrounds. Her counseling interest areas include general, social and test anxiety, grief/loss, addiction recovery, career guidance/exploration, life/school balance, self-help/compassion, and self-esteem. She believes in creating positive relationships and has an eclectic approach. Michelle currently holds the roles of the Counseling Department Chair and Human Development/Career Guidance Coordinator at RCC. She is an Oregon Native and enjoys the breadth of outdoor recreation that Southern Oregon has to offer.

Shelly Hohl

Shelly has lived in the Rogue Valley since 1995 and graduated from Rogue Community College in 2000 with an AA/OT degree. She transferred to Southern Oregon University and in 2002 earning a B.S. degree in Psychology. After a few years in the work force she returned to school and graduated with a M.S. degree in Applied Psychology/Mental Health Track from SOU. She has been a counselor and instructor at RCC since 2009 and a Licensed Professional Counselor in good standing since 2016. Shelly is also a certified Star Behavioral Health Provider since 2018, having specialized training in understanding and treating military service members. Her specialty areas include: Career and Personal/Relationship Counseling, Stress Management, Anxiety & Depression, Trauma, and Grief Counseling. In addition to providing personal counseling, Shelly also teaches various Human Development courses including CG100 College Success and Survival as well as CG105 Finding the Money: Scholarship Essay Writing. She enjoys spending time with her family and exploring outside by hiking and biking in various places throughout the Rogue Valley.

Tom Pike (He/Him/His)

Tom earned a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Antioch New England Graduate School (2003) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon. He has completely loved supporting students at RCC since 2008 by providing personal counseling, career counseling, and teaching College Success, Scholarship Essay Writing, Study Skills for Math Success, and Financial Literacy courses.
Tom’s specializes in working with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, excessive worry or life stress, lack of motivation, relationship issues, life transitions, anger management and issues typically relevant to men. Tom connects with people in a warm and relaxed way and looks forward to helping them create a life of purpose and satisfaction.
Tom spends lots of time with his wife and two sons adventuring in the mountains or ocean. He also plays guitar and loves creating music with his extended family.

Kristi Mersino

Kristi has provided counseling and taught a variety of classes in Psychology and Human Services since 2014. She was born and raised in the Rogue Valley, and earned her MS in Applied Psychology from Southern Oregon University in 2008. Kristi is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Her areas of practice include; anxiety, depression, life transitions, mood disorders, and identifying and breaking barriers to success.
In her spare time, Kristi enjoys gardening, reading, travel and being a Mom and Gigi.
