Is Rogue Community College still offering Placement Assessment?
Yes. Rogue Community College is closely monitoring the COVID-19 cases in Oregon to keep our students, staff, faculty, and visitors safe and informed. Due to the restrictions resulting from COVID-19 and in order to meet the needs of our students, we are offering in person Placement assessment with fewer students per session allowing for at least six feet of social distancing. Any student that would like to enroll for classes can sign up for a Placement Test.

What should I expect at the assessment location if I am taking the Placement Test in person?
At the Placement Test location, all surfaces will be disinfected before and after assessment sessions using procedures recommended by the CDC.
Your health - and our staff's - is of utmost concern to RCC, and for this reason All Testing Candidates are REQUIRED to follow Health and Safety Requirements from the CDC and World Health Organization for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
While on any RCC campus participating in any activity such as taking your Placement assessment you will be asked to follow these rules:
  • All TESTING CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE AND WEAR MASKS WHEN TESTING. THEY CAN BE MEDICAL MASKS OR HOMEMADE MASKS.
  • Practice social distancing by staying at least six feet away from other people.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before entering the Placement session.
  • If you or someone in your household is sick or you are otherwise unwilling to come to campus, please stay home. We will work with you to reschedule your assessment. Please call 541-956-7100 or send an email to [email protected].
  • If you find that you cannot test during the session you are scheduled, please let us know by calling 541-956-7100 or by emailing [email protected] so that we can offer the slot to another student.

What does it cost?
The placement assessment is free.

How do I sign up?
To schedule a placement assessment, please log into the myRogue Student Portal and visit the New Student Information area and click on the Sign up for Placement link.

What can I expect about the assessment?
The Placement assessment is a computer adaptive test that evaluates reading, writing and math levels. When you arrive either in person or remotely the proctor will check your ID and provide verbal and written instructions. The assessment is untimed but takes about two hours.

What do I need to have with me?
On the day of the assessment have your RCC student number (assigned when you applied for admission) and one form of photo I.D. You will not be allowed to take the assessment without a valid photo ID.

What are the accepted forms of ID?
Acceptable ID must be a valid form of current identification that includes the test taker's name, signature (on required ID) and a recognizable photograph. Acceptable forms include:
  • Driver's License
  • State-approved or Federal ID
  • Military ID
  • College ID
  • High School ID
  • Passport
  • Tribal ID
  • Naturalization card or certificate of citizenship

Where do I go to take a Placement Test?

How long does the assessment take?
The placement test takes about two hours but there is no time limit.

When do I get my results?
When you finish the assessment, you will receive your course placement results and a list of first-term course choices.

May I retest?
If you are dissatisfied with your results, you may retest once prior to enrolling in the reading, writing, or math class into which you tested. You may opt for a full or partial retest. Speaking with your Advising Case Manager is recommended prior to re-testing; also, visiting the Accuplacer website to brush up on your skills is highly recommended prior to re-testing.

How long are the results good for?
Placement results do not expire; however, retesting is available.

What if I want a copy of my actual scores?
Students who request copies of their placement scores must complete and submit a Placement Test Scores Request form. The cost is $15.

What if I have a disability and need additional help?
Academic accommodations are available to ensure that eligible RCC students with disabilities participate fully in academic and student life. For more information please visit RCC's Access and Disability Services website.

What do I do if I need to cancel my Placement session? 
If you find that you cannot test during the session you are scheduled, please let us know by calling 541-956-7100 or by emailing [email protected] so that we can get you rescheduled and we can offer the slot to another student.

What if I live out of the area?
If you live outside of Jackson or Josephine County, you can arrange to have your Accuplacer placement test proctored at another college near you. For more information, please call 541-956-7100 or email [email protected].

Academic Placement measures your skills in three areas:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Mathematics

RCC uses Accuplacer, a suite of exams that determine your knowledge in these subjects. Learn more about Accuplacer and review basic concepts in math, reading and writing before taking the placement assessment by visiting www.accuplacer.org.

Things to know:

  1. This assessment is used to place you into reading, writing and math. You cannot pass or fail this exam.
  2. This assessment is not timed, but plan about 2 hours.
  3. You can take a break during the assessment if you need/want to.
  4. A calculator is available for use during the assessment that is built in to the computer program.
  5. You may not use your phone during the assessment.
  6. If you need special accommodations to help take the computerized assessment, please contact Access and Disability Resources.

On assessment day:

  1. Have your RCC Student ID number handy. Don't have one yet? Apply to RCC today at www.roguecc.edu/start
  2. Bring a photo I.D. Choose one:
