Francine Gentile

Biography
Francine discovered her passion for human behavior in her early teens, inspired by the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. She progressed from there to a bachelor's degree and eventually graduate school in psychology. She has worked with adults in crisis, individuals seeking assistance with family planning and pregnancy options, at-risk youth, children and families, and the courts. She has been employed in both the public sector and by not-for-profit organizations, often in leadership roles involving program development and grant writing. She began the teaching phase of her career in 1997 at RCC.

During her tenure as a full-time instructor, Francine taught a wide variety of courses in Human Services and Psychology. She served the department as coordinator for 6 years and department chair for three years. She retired from full-time teaching in 2015.

Biography
I am a native of Southern Oregon, who after many years away, came back home. I have had numerous experiences in the world of education that I believe have strengthened my skills as an instructor over the years. I am fascinated with stories, thus my interest in history. Mary Ann Woodman
Biography
I was raised in Mt. Angel, Oregon in a culturally diverse community which exposed me to many philosophical, psychological and spiritual traditions at an early age.

I traveled around the world learning and working in foreign countries, including Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, Russia, and the Caribbean. I spend winters in Hawaii. These experiences offered me a multi-cultural education and inspired me with a very positive vision of humanity.

I graduated from Oregon State University with a major in Education and minored in Psychology, and later became interested in Psycho-Spiritual Transformation Processes and Naturopathic Medicine. With a Master’s from the University of Notre Dame, I began to work as an Educator and Counselor in Oregon’s Correctional Institutions and the Oregon State Psychiatric Hospital. I directed a Women’s Crisis Center and a Suicide Prevention Center, and was a foster mom for troubled teens. As a mental health counselor for Jackson County Mental Health, I offered many opportunities to journey with people toward wellness.

My Doctorate studies focused on integrating Spirituality, Psychology and Health. I have a private counseling practice in Ashland for many years. In 2005, I began teaching in the Psychology Department at Rogue Community College and enjoy the students and faculty very much.

My hobbies include hiking, swimming, sailing, kayaking, and scuba diving. In Hawaii I work with the International Whale and Dolphin Foundation, and in the summer recreate in Oregon and Alaska. I believe in a balanced life style to promote a sense of inspiration, joy and well-being.

Erika Giesen
Biography
I was born and raised in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, in and around Eugene. After attending college in Portland I fled the clouds and rain of Portland for Tucson to earn a Master’s degree from the University of Arizona. Since Arizona was too dry, I returned to Oregon in 2001, but this time to the climate-perfect Rogue Valley.

I taught Sociology at Southern Oregon University and RCC part-time until 2010 when I was hired full-time at RCC to teach Social Science. While my passion has been teaching about inequality and justice, in the past several years this interest has expanded to environmental justice and sustainability.
