Human Services Application Procedures and Info Sessions
A career in human services offers many opportunities. RCC's programs provide the training and experience you need to enter this rewarding field and to fulfill the high demand for Human Service professionals. RCC Human Services advisors will assist you in deciding which pathway is right for you based on your interests, aptitudes, and career goals.
The application process will close August 26, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.
The application process has several steps, which must be taken in order:
Step 1: Attend a mandatory information session
- October 24, 2022 from 5-7:00 p.m.
- November 16, 2022 from 5-7:00 p.m.
- January 17, 2023 from 5-7:00 p.m.
- February 21, 2023 from 5-7:00 p.m.
- March 14, 2023 from 5-7:00 p.m.
- April 17, 2023 from 5-7:00 p.m.
This is required, even if you have attended a session in the past. You will have an opportunity to learn about the field of human services, careers, prerequisite courses, and program pathways.
Step 3: Complete the prerequisite courses before the end of summer term 2022 with a C grade or higher. Or, consult an advisor to determine your eligibility for fall term enrollment in prerequisite courses. Some of the prerequisites have requirements of their own.
- MTH60, 63 OR BT160 (required for AAS degree only)
- CIS120 or above, or demonstrated proficiency
Step 4: Complete the Human Services Application form.
The components of the application are:
- Personal information
- Two - three paragraphs addressing: What are the most important qualities for a Human Services professional? What strengths/talents do you possess that will most assist you in becoming a Human Services professional?
Please note: Many human services agencies and employers require you to complete a criminal background check upon application for practicum and/or employment. A conviction or an arrest does not automatically disqualify an applicant from a practicum experience or employment, there is an appeal process which can be completed through the agency for which you are applying for your practicum. In addition, the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of Oregon requires verification of a minimum of two years sobriety time for those who are recovering from chemical dependence and who seek initial certification as addiction counselors.
The College is not responsible for assuring you meet certification/licensure eligibility requirements despite successful completion of Rogue Community College Human Services Program.
Questions on this can be addressed at an Information Session or by contacting the Human Services Coordinator, Manny Pacheco.
Step 5. Applicants will be notified by mail of their application status.
Email Alice Jordan if your contact information changes or if you wish to withdraw or postpone your application.
Step 6: Orientation and advising.
Students accepted into the program must attend a program orientation and advising session in September. Accepted students will be notified of the date, time and location.
Thank you for your interest in RCC's Human Services program. We look forward to meeting you!
