Online Music Courses

The RCC Music Department has a successful, comprehensive, and popular set of online music courses. These courses allow students who seek a quality education, but may have responsibilities in addition to college including work or family, to learn in a flexible and effective way. Students who live outside the area or who cannot make scheduled class times can also benefit from online learning.
We offer a diverse group of online courses:
- Music Appreciation
- Music in World Cultures
- Music Theory
- Aural Skills
- Exploring Music: Introduction to Music History
- Music Fundamentals
Most of the texts are web-based, which allow students to enjoy a sophisticated learning experience that combines cutting edge technology with a traditional textbook. Students can read the text while listening to the music discussed, and practice their musical skills using interactive exercises embedded in the text itself. Active discussion forums for each class keep the virtual classroom alive, and students interact with each other and the instructor throughout the term.
Online learning allows students to schedule their own hours for schoolwork, and learn a lot about a subject they may have always wanted to explore but never had the time or opportunity.
