ARTICLE VI: HUMAN RESOURCES/INSTRUCTION
SECTION A: ACADEMIC FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY
VI.A.010
Academic freedom is essential to the fulfillment of the purposes of education, and the Board of Education acknowledges the fundamental need to protect employees from any censorship or restraint which might interfere with their obligations to pursue truth in the performance of their teaching functions. An instructor is entitled to full freedom in research and in publication of the results, subject to the adequate performance of other academic duties. It is recognized that Rogue Community College, working within the framework of the Oregon Legislative Directive for Community Colleges, is entitled to freedom in the classroom in discussing the subject, but should be careful not to introduce into instruction, controversial matter which has no relation to the subject of the course.
