Paramedic Course Information

This is the anticipated paramedic course schedule for 2026-2027, and reflects the hours and requirements of a typical year. (Note: Details are subject to change for future classes.)

Schedule

Fall, Winter and Spring:

  • Lecture/Discussion (8 hrs/week): Monday & Wednesday 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
  • Hands-on lab (8 hrs/week): Monday/Wednesday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
    • Additional lab hours may be required to meet skills competencies.
  • Clinical Shifts
    • Students will complete about 100 hours (6-10 shifts) each term in various contracted clinical locations. These shifts will be scheduled each term on non-class days.
    • Experience will include Emergency Departments, Anesthesia, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Cardiac Care, and Ambulance Ride Time.

Summer and Fall

Paramedic Capstone Internship (most students will complete this summer term)
Essentially a full-time EMS work schedule: Days and hours vary, based on specific internship location. There is a mandatory minimum requirement of 297 hours and specific Advanced Life Support (ALS) assessments on a transporting ambulance. It is common for students’ internship times to extend beyond those minimums (300-400 hours is average).

Working during the Paramedic year
This is an intensive full-time program, and we strongly discourage students from working full-time while attending. While many students do work while attending the courses, the clinical and course demands and attendance requirements are heavy and will require a flexible work schedule and significant dedication from students.

Klamath Region Opportunities
RCC and Klamath Community College (KCC) have partnered to provide an opportunity for students in Klamath County to more easily access paramedic education. See our Klamath Partnership web page for more details.

Required Items
Full details regarding specific requirements will be provided after acceptance into the program. Requirements will include:

  1. Approved uniforms for class, clinical and field time.
  2. A reliable tablet computer or compact laptop.
  3. Textbooks: The list of required texts is updated frequently, and every effort is made to minimize the expense for students. In addition to a paramedic textbook and an ECG/12-Lead text, the current editions of the ACLS, PALS and PHTLS books will be required.
