Paramedic Course Application

Please review the Paramedic Course Entry requirements to ensure you are eligible prior to starting the application.

The Paramedic Course application has two steps.

  1. Due June 2, 2026: Submission of the online application through Qualified First.
    Step 1 submission will include:
    • All required immunization records.
    • Current AHA BLS Provider CPR certification.
      NOTE: See the EMS Planning Tool for specifics on vaccine and CPR requirements.
    • Current Oregon EMT license (or document listing specific date license will be obtained prior to the start of the paramedic course).
  2. Due June 10, 2026: Completion of online application. This will include demographic data, educational and work history, progress towards course, certificate, and degreecompletion, and goals and motivation for pursuing paramedic. Step 2 will also require submission of the following:
    • Official transcripts from any colleges attended other than RCC, on file with the RCC Enrollment Services office.
    • Copies of any certificates or licensure to be considered.

Competitive Entry Scoring Criteria

Entrance into the RCC Paramedic program is a competitive process. To be eligible, candidates must meet all minimum entry requirements and prerequisites based on the degree or certificate pathway they have selected. Successful qualified applicants are selected based on the specific criteria outlined below, intended to identify those students most likely to be successful in the program. Candidates with the top scores will be accepted into the program. The total number of students accepted is based on multiple variables and is not determined until the application process closes.

EMS & Direct Patient Care Experience

25

Points based on full or part-time employment, years of experience, and specific role.
Points awarded for full or part-time, and volunteer work, first response roles, or other patient care experience.
Maximum points awarded for full-time employment, with greater than 3 years’ experience, with a transporting agency.

Cumulative Grade Point Average

20

Cumulative of all undergraduate college courses completed, supported by official transcripts. GPA of 3.6-4.0 = 20, 3.3-3.5 = 15, 3.0-3.2 = 10.
No points awarded for GPA less than 3.0.

Progress Towards Program Completion  

15

Based on the number of courses required for the applicant’s selected pathway that will be completed during the paramedic class year.
All courses completed by the start of the paramedic course = 15, 1 course remaining = 10, 2 classes remaining = 5.

Veteran Status           

5

Veterans or current members of the armed services are awarded 5 points.

Additional Relevant Training and Certifications

10

Advanced EMT, EMT-Intermediate, ECG, Pharmacology, phlebotomy, etc. 0.5 points per college credit completed, up to 10 points maximum.

Advanced Anatomy & Physiology Courses Completed               

10

Completion of 200-level A & P courses with a grade of C or better.
Complete series = 10, two terms (or one semester) = 5, one term = 3.

Other Relevant Science Courses 

5

Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Life Sciences, etc. >10 credits = 5, 5-9 credits = 3, < 5 credits = 1.

Application Completion

10

Complete application process with all documentation submitted prior to deadline = 10.
Minor corrections or additional details needed = 5. Multiple items or details missing = 0.

Total Points Possible

100
