Paramedic Course Entry Requirements
Start your paramedic journey at Rogue Community College. Choose the option that fits your background and goals.
Option 1: AAS in Paramedicine
Follow the Paramedicine AAS Program Map and schedule an advising appointment with an EMS Advisor.
To apply, you must:
- Complete all first-year courses (you may take up to 3 of the required classes during the paramedic year).
- Complete BI231, BI232, and BI233.
- Hold Oregon EMT licensure before the program start date.
Option 2: AAS in Emergency Services
Follow the Emergency Services AAS Program Map and schedule an advising appointment with an EMS Advisor.
To apply, you must:
- Complete all first-year courses (you may take up to three of the required classes during the paramedic year).
- Complete EMS270 – Paramedic Preparation.
- Hold Oregon EMT licensure before the program start date.
Option 3: Advanced Emergency Care Certificate of Completion
For licensed EMTs who already hold an associate degree or higher in any discipline. Follow the Advanced Emergency Care Certificate Program Map.
To apply, you must:
- Hold an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
- Complete EMS270 – Paramedic Preparation.
- Hold Oregon EMT licensure before the program start date.
Required Discipline-Specific Courses
These four courses are part of the paramedic curriculum and must be completed before finishing the program. Students may take up to three courses during their paramedic year, but completing them before applying is strongly encouraged.
- ES105 – Introduction to Emergency Services (4 credits, online)
- ES268 – Emergency Services Rescue (3 credits)
- ES171 – Emergency Vehicle Operations (2 credits)
- ES205 – Crisis Recognition & Care (3 credits, online)
Note: Some or all of these courses may qualify for Credit for Prior Learning.
Important Notes:
- Students completing the Advanced Emergency Care Certificate may not receive an Emergency Services or Paramedicine AAS degree upon completion; see an advisor to review your transcripts to determine degree or certificate eligibility.
- Students can apply for the upcoming fall paramedic course even if they are taking required courses during spring and summer terms. Successful completion of those courses is required prior to the start of the paramedic coursework.
- Based on prior training and experience, you may be eligible to apply for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) for some of the courses listed above. See an Emergency Services Advisor for details.
- Courses taken at an accredited institution can be transferred to Rogue Community College for evaluation.
