Prepare for an Interview
An interview is your best chance for the hiring committee to get to know you. Whether the interview is face-to-face, over the phone, or via Zoom, how prepared you are will be evident. Student Employment Services wants to help you be as prepared as possible.
Interview Preparation Tips
In addition to Big Interview and other resources in the tiles above, below are even more recommendations and resources to help you prepare for your interview:
- Review interviewing tips to improve your skills.
- Develop an elevator pitch — a 60-second commercial highlighting your background, key educational and practical experiences, and your future career goals; this can serve as a response when the hiring manager asks you to tell them about yourself.
- Select questions you will ask the employer.
- Identify what you will bring to your interview.
- Prepare a thank-you letter or e-mail to send to your hiring committee within 24 hours. According to TopResume, 68% of hiring managers reported that if an interviewee fails to express gratitude, it hinders their chances of getting an offer.
