Occupational and Employment Skills Training

student looking through a microscopeThe Occupational Skills Training - OST (one-year credit certificate program) and the Employment Skills Training - EST (1-2 term certicate program) are unique RCC programs that combine college coursework with extended internships in local businesses with a focus on employment readiness and skills training.  Students earn approximately half their program credits through training at local business sites.

Students- How to Get Started

To be considered for acceptance into the program please take these important steps:

  • Attend an Information Session
  • Complete an Occupational Skills Training Application
  • Meet with program faculty to customize your program
  • Get input from Training Site supervisors on academic plan
  • Register for courses
Students must submit a completed Occupational Skills Training (OST) application to program staff. Once accepted, students will work with program faculty to customize a program that includes training goals, selection of academic classes, and identification of a training site. The customized program is developed with input from RCC faculty and training site supervisors.

  • Employers have input into training and program design
  • Opportunity to train incumbent workers into new roles or to source new staff
  • A highly adaptable tool to address workforce needs in a wide variety of jobs and industries
  • Ability to offer trainings not otherwise addressed by the RCC list of degrees/programs
  • RCC provides Worker’s Compensation coverage for unpaid trainees
  • Interns can be trained to exact needs and standards  
  • Employers are not obligated to hire their students, but many do
