Colleges and universities admit students as either freshmen or transfer students, depending on how many college credits you’ve earned.
Check your intended school’s transfer policy to understand:
- How many credits qualify you as a transfer student.
- How transfer status affects admissions, scholarships and financial aid.
- GPA and general education requirements.
- The maximum number of credits the school will accept.
Not all courses transfer the same way. Planning ahead helps ensure your courses apply to your future degree.
There are certain categories of courses:
- General education courses – Broad coursework required for most degrees (may be called core, baccalaureate core or university studies).
- Program Requirements – Courses required for your specific program of study.
- Electives - Depending on the program, electives in the areas of humanities, science and/or social science may be included in a program map.

RCC participates in ASU’s Community College Articulation Partnership program. This program helps students transfer with lower-division coursework already applied toward a bachelor’s degree.

Students who complete an Associate of Arts at RCC are considered “Required Course of Study” ready at University of Phoenix. General education and lower-division electives are satisfied, though program-specific prerequisites still apply.
