Before you start your Education Studies program at RCC, there are a few important steps to help make sure you’re set up for success — in the classroom and in real early learning environments. This section walks you through placement, prerequisites, practicum expectations and required documentation, so you know what to expect as you plan your path forward.
This program has prerequisite course requirements, which may be waived based on placement. Please see the Program Map in our academic catalog for more information. Some programs have extra courses or skill requirements. An advisor can help you understand what is needed.
Practicum
An education practicum gives you hands-on experience in real early learning environments, where you can apply what you’ve learned in class while working alongside experienced educators. During your practicum, you’ll support children’s learning and development, practice professional communication with families and colleagues, and observe how classrooms operate day to day. This experience helps you build confidence, strengthen teaching skills and understand what employers expect in early childhood settings. A practicum is an important step toward entering the early childhood education workforce prepared, capable and classroom-ready.
Practicum placement will require proof of measles immunization status, an RCC Student ID and criminal history background check. More information is available from the Early Childhood & Elementary Education Department.
Graduation Requirements
The Early Intervention Transfer to WOU associate degree requires the completion of 90-94 program credits in addition to prerequisite credits, which may be waived based on placement. Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C-” or better to earn a degree. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic & Career Coach or faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.
Courses may be taken over multiple terms, and not all courses are offered every term.
