Richard’s small business background began with working as an outside sales rep for a small company that manufactured electronic restaurant equipment, calling on accounts that covered half of the US.
With his sales background and his partner and brother-in-law handling repairs and back-shop operations, they purchased a small sole-proprietor bicycle shop in Grants Pass in 1992. They leveraged their strength in mountain biking and their dealership in Trek and other well-known brands to grow their shop faster than the overall bike market, and after five years Richard bought out his partner and became the sole proprietor. After weathering the 2008 recession with steady sales, the shop continued to be profitable until he sold in 2015.
In 2016, he became a Contract Specialist at RCC and is active in teaching and advising for the SBDC as he transitions into retirement.
