Certificate
Table Rock Campus
The Manual Machinist Certificate of Completion at Rogue Community College is your fast-track entry to the manufacturing world. This three-term certificate gives you the hands-on skills to make tooling and mechanical parts. You’ll learn the basics used in industrial mechanics, automotive machining, heavy equipment repair, gunsmithing and any field that uses subtractive manufacturing.
Along the way, you’ll build strong skills in math, blueprint reading and choosing the right tools for the lathe, mill, drill press and both vertical and horizontal band saws.
When you’re ready for the next step, this certificate can lead you straight into RCC’s Manufacturing Technology Associate of Applied Science degree, where you’ll dive into CNC operation and programming.
Program Highlights
In this course of study, you will learn to: In the advanced parts of this program, you will:
- Use manual mills and lathes to make parts that match the measurements on a blueprint.
- Read mechanical blueprints and fix problems in the manufacturing process to ensure everything meets industry standards.
- Make a finished part by choosing and using the right tools.
- Achieve industry standards safety rules to protect yourself and others while you work.
- Study basic metallurgy as it relates to manufacturing processes.
- Develop the hands-on skills needed for machining jobs in manufacturing with an emphasis on lathe work, vertical mill operations, precision grinding, tool room tasks and safety.
- Complete a challenging project in a prototype production run using multiple manufacturing processes.
- Use the surface grinder and precision inspection equipment to achieve high quality results in the finishing process of machine tooling.
