Entry Requirements Before you get started, it’s important to understand how this program works. The Industrial Mechanics & Maintenance Technology Associate of Applied Science degree is available only to students who are accepted into an approved Rogue Community College apprenticeship program: Millwright link, Boiler Operator link and Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic link. As a registered apprentice, you earn college credit while completing your apprenticeship and additional required coursework, allowing you to make steady progress toward an associate degree. Because this is a special admission program, you must meet specific entry requirements before you can apply.
How to Get Started
The following steps must be completed before you are able to apply for the Industrial Mechanics & Maintenance Technology Associate of Applied Science program. RCC staff are here to guide and support you throughout the process.
Step 1: Apply and Be Accepted into an RCC Apprenticeship Program You must first be accepted into one of these apprenticeship programs: Millwright link, Boiler Operator link and Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic link. The application process and timeline varies by trade, so reviewing the program page for your chosen trade is an important first step.
Step 2: Apply to Rogue Community College Applying to RCC is free and only takes a few minutes online. Once you are admitted, you will have access to advising and planning support.
Step 3: Complete the RCC Placement Process Placement helps identify which math and writing classes are the best fit for you based on your background, experience and goals.
Step 4: Meet With an Academic Advisor An academic advisor will help you understand the Program Map, plan your coursework and align your classes with your apprenticeship training.
Step 5: Apply to the Industrial Mechanics & Maintenance Technology Career Pathway AAS Program After meeting all admission requirements, you can apply to the degree program. Application deadlines vary, so be sure to apply for the upcoming academic year once you are eligible.
Admission Requirements
Because this is a special admission program, you must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED®.
- Be accepted into an approved RCC apprenticeship program.
- Submit a completed program application by the posted deadline.
Applying for an apprenticeship can take time, and available openings may be limited. For some trades, being placed in an applicant pool does not guarantee immediate employment, as candidates are contacted when openings become available. Many students continue working while they wait to be placed.
Graduation Requirements
The Industrial Mechanics & Maintenance Technology Associate of Applied Science degree requires the completion of at least 90 credits, depending on your apprenticeship program. Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C” or better to earn this degree. Students must also possess the appropriate Bureau of Labor and Industries Apprenticeship Certificate and be recommended by the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee or the Trades Apprenticeship and Training Committee. This degree does not guarantee licensure.

Credit for Prior Learning
The Industrial Mechanics and Maintenance Technology - Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning, meaning your work experience, training or other learning outside the classroom could count for college credit — helping you save time and reduce costs.
