At RCC, we all have a shared responsibility for creating a safe and respectful campus. Each member of the RCC community can help prevent gender discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual violence — on and off campus.Being informed, speaking up and supporting others are powerful ways to make a difference.How you Can Help
Prevention starts with awareness and everyday actions. You can help by:
- Educating yourself on the issues.
- Practicing consent and avoiding pressure or
- coercion in sexual encounters.
- Recognizing that sexual violence can happen in any community.
- Modeling respectful behavior for friends, family and peers.
- Talking with teens about healthy, respectful relationships.
- Speaking up if someone jokes about or brags about sexually aggressive behavior.
- Calling for help if you witness violence or unsafe situations.
- Remembering that anyone can be sexually assaulted, including men.
- Respecting the choices survivors make to stay safe.
- Understanding that sexual violence is about power and control.
- Learning about date rape drugs and how to identify risk.
- Knowing that most people who commit sexual violence are known to the victim.
- Participating in Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities in April.
- Encouraging others to stay informed and involved.

Being a bystander means caring enough to act. If you see or sense that something is wrong, your actions matter.
- Call 911 or RCC Campus Security at 541-218-2930 if there is immediate danger.
- Check in with someone who appears uncomfortable or unsafe and ask if they are ok.
- Speak up if you see someone behaving inappropriately.
- Do not laugh at offensive or disrespectful jokes or comments.
- Step in or seek help if someone is trying to take advantage of a person who is intoxicated.
Friends play an important role in creating a respectful community.
You can:
- Speak up! Call out your friends or classmates if they are being disrespectful in their words or behavior.
- Be courageous! Look at your own attitudes. Think how your actions may impact others.
- Help survivors! Meet them where they are. Listen and gently ask what you can do to help.
How To Support a Friend Who is a Survivor
Your support can make a meaningful difference. If someone shares their experience with you:
- Listen and be present. Do not judge or blame the victim.
- Validate your friend’s experiences and reactions.
- Gently encourage medical care or counseling if needed.
- Be patient — It may take your friend some time to deal with their traumatic experience.
Respect their choices and decisions.
If You Have Experienced Sexual Harassment or Violence
If you have been affected by sexual harassment or violence, RCC wants to support you in the way that works best for you. Help is available, and you are in control of what steps you take.

Remember You Are Not Alone
- Sexual assault can happen to anyone, at any time or location.
- Most survivors know the person who harmed them.
- What happened is not your fault.
- Support and care are available, and you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Campus Security
Campus Security can respond to criminal activity and emergency situations on campus.
Call 541-218-2930 for all campuses
Campus Hours:
- Redwood Campus: Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Riverside Campus: Available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Table Rock Campus: Available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
During summer term's Friday closures, there will be no security on duty at Riverside
and Table Rock Campus.
Redwood Campus will continue to have staff on duty 24/7.
