RCC’s Addiction Studies program is a special admission program, which means you must meet additional requirements and complete a separate admission process beyond general college admission. Before you start the Addiction Studies application, it helps to understand a few important steps that can set you up for success.
If you have taken courses at another accredited institution, RCC may be able to accept them if they meet current program requirements. Courses older than 10 years must be reviewed and approved by a department chair. If you earned College Now credits in high school, you will need to meet with a Human Services advisor to see how those apply.
Keep in mind that many agencies require background checks for practicum and employment. A record does not automatically prevent you from participating, and agencies often have an appeal process.
Graduation Requirements
The Addiction Studies Certificate requires the completion of 24-25 program credits (including prerequisite credits). Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C” or better to earn a certificate. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic or faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.

Credit for Prior Learning
The Addiction Studies program may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning, meaning your work experience, training or other learning outside the classroom could count for college credit — helping you save time and reduce costs.
Human Services Info Session
Students are encouraged to take notes so they can easily complete the subsequent quiz. The quiz needs to be passed with 100% correct answers to access the application. Students will have unlimited attempts to complete the quiz, but notes can be helpful in speeding up the process.
