The Industrial Welding Certificate of Completion is a three-term program that will get you qualified to test for certification to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1-06 Structural Steel and the AWS D1.3-08 Sheet Steel Welding Codes.
You also get a good foundation in structural steel fitting and layout, the basics of pipe fitting and sheet metal pattern development.
Schedule Overview
This is a three-term course of study. Each term will build on previous learning as you move to more advanced projects.
First term you study mechanical drafting, industrial welding and first aid. You will get lab time with an individualized plan from your instructor to further your technical expertise in self-shielded and/or gas shielded flux core welding in all positions on carbon steel.
Second term will introduce more advanced welding techniques, mechanical drafting and more lab time with individualized instruction.
Third term is advanced welding and lab time, special projects, fabrication and repair practices and prep for your AWS Certification.

- Gas Metal Arc Welding
- Flux Core Arc Welding
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
- Fabrication skills
- Blueprint reading
Graduation Requirements
The Industrial Welding Technology Certificate requires the completion of 36-40 program credits and 0-8 prerequisite credits, which may be waived based on placement. Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C-” or better to earn a certificate. Some required courses are graded on a pass/no pass basis. A grade of “P” for these courses indicates whether a student earned the equivalent of a “C-” or a better grade.
Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor or faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.

Credit for Prior Learning
The Industrial Welding Technology (Certificate) program may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning, meaning your work experience, training or other learning outside the classroom could count for college credit — helping you save time and reduce costs.
