Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), often called TIG welding, is a precision welding process commonly used in industries that require high-quality, detailed work such as aerospace, fabrication, manufacturing and specialty metalwork. Welders with GTAW skills may work with materials like stainless steel, aluminum and other nonferrous metals to produce clean, accurate welds for structural and decorative applications. Because GTAW emphasizes control, attention to detail and strong technical skills, it is valued in advanced manufacturing and custom fabrication settings.
