The RCC Arboretum at Redwood Campus is a living collection of native and ornamental plants designed for study, exploration and enjoyment. Established in 1982 as a living memorial, the Arboretum continues to support campus beautification while serving as an outdoor learning space for students and the community.
Today, the Arboretum features a wide variety of trees and shrubs from around the world, including many species native to Southern Oregon. Plants are labeled throughout campus, making it easy to explore at your own pace.

Chuck Ruckman Memorial Trail
Located on the west side of the campus, the Chuck Ruckman Memorial Trail is a popular 0.6-mile forested loop open to the public. One entrance is at the parking lot by the Concert Bowl.

Why an Arboretum?

Klamath-Siskiyou Ecoregion
Redwood Campus is located within the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion, one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. Its complex geology and varied soils support unique plant life, including species found nowhere else.
Southern Oregon Climate
Southern Oregon’s climate is influenced by the Pacific Ocean and nearby mountains, creating a range of microclimates across the region.
- Wet springs and dry summers support diverse plant growth.
- Mild winters allow for a wide variety of tree species.
- Native plants include madrone, white oak and Douglas fir, along with many conifers.
Botanical Nomenclature
Plants in the Arboretum are labeled using scientific (Latin) names, which are used worldwide for consistency. Each plant name includes:
