Rogue Community College uses academic standing standards to help you stay on track toward completing your degree or certificate in a timely way. Academic standing affects your ability to enroll in classes and is reviewed at the end of every term.
In addition to Academic Standing standards, you must also meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements to remain eligible for financial aid.

Good Academic Standing

You are considered in Good Academic Standing if you meet both of the following minimum requirements:

  • A cumulative grade point average (cGPA) of 2.0 or higher
  • Completion of at least 50% of the credits you attempt each term (Pace) with grades of A, B, C, D or P

Students in Good Academic Standing may continue enrolling without restriction.

Academic Alert I

If you do not meet the cumulative GPA or term pace requirement, you will be placed on Academic Alert I.

While on Academic Alert I:
  • You may still enroll in classes.
  • You will receive a notice explaining Academic Standing requirements and available support resources.
  • A Registration Hold will prevent enrollment in a current or future term until you meet with an Academic Advisor [4.3.3].
At the end of the next enrolled term:
  • If you meet minimum term GPA and pace requirements, you return to Good Academic Standing.
  • If not, you move to Academic Alert II.
Academic Alert II

If you do not make progress toward Good Academic Standing while on Academic Alert I, you will be placed on Academic Alert II.

While on Academic Alert II:
  • A Registration Hold will block enrollment.
  • You must meet with a Counselor before registering again.
Students who do not show improvement after Academic Alert II move to Academic Suspension.

Academic Suspension

Students who do not make progress while on Academic Alert II are placed on Academic Suspension, which temporarily stops enrollment at RCC.

  • Suspension is noted on your transcript and electronic student record.
  • You must sit out at least one term.
  • You must meet with an RCC Counselor before submitting an Academic Return Packet.
  • A Registration Hold remains until reinstatement is approved.
Returning After Academic Suspension

After sitting out one or more terms and meeting with a Counselor, you may request reinstatement by submitting an Academic Return Packet to the Counseling Department by the stated deadline.

The return packet must:

  • Explain the reasons academic standards were not met.
  • Include documentation if applicable.
  • Describe what you will do differently to be successful moving forward.

You may meet in person or by web conference with the Academic Reinstatement Committee if required or requested.

Steps to Appeal for Academic Reinstatement

Academic Reinstatement Decisions

The Academic Reinstatement Committee reviews all appeals and notifies you of the decision.

  • If approved, you are placed on Probation or Probation (Aid Eligible).
  • If denied, you remain on Academic Suspension for at least one more term.

You may appeal the committee’s decision in writing to the Vice President of Student Learning and Success within seven working days if you have new information.

Grades Used for Academic Standing

  • Successful grades: A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C- and P
  • Unsuccessful grades: D, F, I, NP, W and NA

Probation Status

If you are reinstated after suspension based on a corrective plan, you may be placed on Probation.

While on Probation:

  • You follow a required academic plan.
  • Your course load is limited.
  • You must show improvement each term.

At the end of the probation term:

  • If you pass 100 percent of your classes with a C or better and have a 2.0 cGPA, you return to Good Academic Standing.
  • If you pass all classes but do not yet have a 2.0 cGPA, you remain on probation until you reach that benchmark.
  • If you do not meet plan requirements, you may be suspended again.

Second or Subsequent Academic Suspension

Students suspended more than once must:

  • Sit out at least one term.
  • Meet with an RCC Counselor
  • Submit an Academic Return Appeal.
  • Meet with the Academic Reinstatement Committee in person or by web conference.

Academic Standing is designed to support your success, not stop your progress. If you feel unsure about your status or next steps, a Counselor can help you create a plan to move forward and reach your goals.
