Ospreys Game Recaps (2022)

11/13/2022
MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was in Bellevue, WA for the opening round of the NWAC Volleyball playoffs. Their second match of the double elimination round was against Lower Columbia College (LCC) the two seed out of the West Region. RCC fought hard taking a close first set before stumbling in the second. Another close battle in the third went the way of LCC before they closed out the match with a 3-1 (27-25, 13-25, 26-28, 20-25) win.

The Ospreys (12-19, 8-8) were up against the wall in a win or go home match against LCC (26-5, 11-1). They fought hard finding their spots and leaning on their top tier defense and star hitter Tessa Frodge. After winning a close first set the Ospreys fell apart early in the second only to turn it on in the third set for another point-for-point battle. This time LCC came out on top and in the fourth set the teams were tied until late when LCC went on a run to close it out.

The Ospreys fourth season comes to a close once again in the playoffs. The two-time South Region champions have made playoffs all four seasons in the Northwest Athletic Conference finishing as high as fifth. They will head into the offseason with five returners and a new roster of recruits.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was in Bellevue, WA for the opening round of the NWAC Volleyball playoffs. Their first match in the double elimination regional round was against regional host Bellevue College (BC). RCC played strong defense and held their own at the net but were overcome by BC and their height. They fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18).

The Ospreys (12-18, 8-8) got into the playoffs after a reverse sweep play-in-game. The resulting four seed meant they were matched up against the North Region champion BC (26-6, 11-1) to open the double elimination regional round. They stood tough and played well but ultimately fell short in the 3-0 loss.

They have a quick turnaround as they will play Lower Columbia College (25-5, 11-1) at 4:00 p.m. Saturday November 12. Winner moves to Sunday and the loser will see their season end.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team hosted Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) on Sunday November 6. The match was a play-in-game for the fourth seed, and final playoff spot, in the South Region. Two narrow first sets didn’t go RCC’s way before they would kick into high gear and sweep the final three sets for a 3-2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-10) win. The fourth year of the Volleyball program produces a fourth straight playoff appearance behind a total team effort.

The Ospreys (12-17, 8-8) have had an up and down season full of injuries and growth. After dropping the final regular season match of the year, they landed in a play-in-game scenario against MHCC (14-12, 8-8). Both teams wanted the final playoff spot and played close through the first two sets with MHCC coming out on top. Some small adjustments to the lineup and court spacing countered the offensive attack from MHCC and set up the Ospreys for their third reverse sweep of the year, and second against MHCC.

Tessa Frodge 28 Kills and 15 Digs, Precious Tauanuu 21 Kills, Teiva Miller 15 Kills, Jordyn McCutcheon 56 Assists 24 Digs, Kylie Anderson 25 Digs, Autumn Williams 15 Digs, and Kailani Medeiros with 5 Blocks.

The Ospreys will head to Bellevue, WA for the opening round of the NWAC playoffs. Double elimination pool-play for opening weekend. The Ospreys draw region host Bellevue College (25-6, 11-1) for their first match on November 12 at 1 p.m.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team hosted Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) Friday November 4. RCC needed a win in the final regular season game to secure a playoff spot but fell behind in each set and couldn’t catch up falling 0-3 (20-25, 22-25, 21-25) and landing in a three-way tie for fourth and a play-in-game scenario.

The Ospreys (11-17, 8-8) seemed to be running out of gas late into a season of overcoming injuries and close losses. They faced SWOCC (11-18, 4-12) who had played tough all season but hadn’t found many region wins. The Ospreys saw themselves fall behind by five or six points in each set only to charge back late and threaten but fall short. They are swept by SWOCC and finish the season .500 in region play.

The loss drops the Ospreys into a tie with Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) and Umpqua Community College (UCC) for the fourth and final playoff spot. Due to region tie breakers the Ospreys will host the winner of MHCC (13-11, 8-8) and UCC (18-14, 8-8) who are set to play Saturday November 5.

The Ospreys will host that winner Sunday November 6 at 2 p.m. Win and they head to Bellevue, WA for the opening round of the NWAC playoffs, lose and their season is over.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road in Walla Walla, WA for the opening round of the Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs. They faced Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) the second-place finisher from the East Region. RCC gave up two goals in the first half and then a third one late in the second to fall 3-0 ending their season.

The Ospreys (4-7-6, 2-4-6) had an up and down season full of ties. They got into the playoffs with a point advantage hoping to make the Elite Eight for a third straight year. They faced a top finisher in the east in WWCC (14-3-3, 7-3-2). WWCC would open up the scoring halfway through the first half and would get a second only minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into the half.

The Ospreys adjusted well in the second half as they slowed the attack and created more opportunities. None would fall and they would give up a third goal on a counter attack late in the second half when they were pressing for a goal. The match ended with a 0-3 result.

The Ospreys season ends coming off a Final Four appearance last year, extending their playoff streak to three years in a row. They have eighteen players who are eligible to return for next season and will look to round out the roster and push for a fourth straight playoff appearance.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road Wednesday November 2 taking on Umpqua Community College (UCC). They need one win in their final two games to secure a playoff spot and avoid a tie-breaker, play-in-game, scenario. RCC would fall behind early to UCC dropping both of the first two sets only to battle to a strong win in the third before falling in the fourth for a 1-3 (19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 16-25) loss.

The Ospreys (11-16, 8-7) matched up well with UCC (18-14, 8-8) in their previous match where they lost Precious Tauanuu for the season. They had been playing with energy and finding ways to win only to struggle early against UCC before finding an offensive groove in the third set. They would fall behind 5-0 to start the fourth set and could never put together a run to catch up falling 1-3 on the day.

The Ospreys will host Southwestern Community College (10-17, 3-11) on Friday November 4 at 6 p.m. for their final regular season game. A win and they are in the playoffs as the third or fourth seed. A loss and they end up in a multiple team tie and potential play-in-game scenario for the final playoff spot. They currently sit in a tie for third place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team hosted No. 1 ranked Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) Saturday October 29. RCC found their opportunities when they could but didn’t have enough to overcome the firepower of LBCC falling 0-3 (11-25, 19-25, 17-25).

The Ospreys (11-15, 8-6) had a tall task in the No. 1 ranked LBCC (27-1, 14-0) as they look to lock in a playoff spot. LBCC came out hot and consistent as they built a strong lead in the first set and never looked back. The Ospreys fought hard in the second and third sets going point for point for most of the match only to see LBCC pull ahead late both times and close out a 3-0 win.

The Ospreys are on the road for their next match when they take on Umpqua Community College (16-14, 6-8) Wednesday November 2 at 6 p.m. They currently sit in third place in the South Region with two games to play.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team hosted No. 5 ranked Lane Community College (LCC) Friday October 28. RCC stood strong against one of the best as they pushed them to five sets falling just short of the upset with a 2-3 (15-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 9-15) loss.

The Ospreys (11-14, 8-5) were overpowered by the middles of LCC (18-2, 11-2) in the first set falling behind and struggling to catch up. They adjusted and went into three straight sets of back and forth closely contested matches. The back and forth would lead to a fifth set where the Ospreys fell behind 6-2 early and couldn’t make up the difference falling 2-3.

The Ospreys will host No. 1 ranked Linn-Benton Community College (26-1, 13-0) tomorrow, Saturday October 29, at 2 p.m. They currently sit in third place in the South Region with three games to play.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team hosted Portland Community College (PCC) for the final game of the regular season Wednesday October 26. RCC scored first and opened the second half with a goal holding on to win 2-1. The win moves them into a playoff spot awaiting the result of Lane and Chemeketa on Saturday night. A Lane win secures third and a draw leads to a play in game.

The Ospreys (4-6-6, 2-4-6) needed to win against PCC (2-8-4, 2-7-3) to give themselves a chance to be earn a playoff position. In the 22’ Randy Rodriguez would play a ball to Victor Martinez would touched passed it to Isaac Herrera who put it away into the lower right corner. They went into the half up 1-0.

The opened the second half with a 46’ minute goal when Brandon Martinez played a ball across the box to Rodriguez who collected it and put it away to go up 2-0. PCC found the net in the 66’ but the Ospreys defense would hold to secure the 2-1 win.

The Ospreys move into third place in the South Region and await the result of Lane Community College (8-2-3, 7-1-3) vs. Chemeketa Community College (3-8-2, 3-5-2) in Eugene OR on Saturday October 29. A Lane win secures a third-place finish for the Ospreys and a draw would lead to a play in game on Monday October 31 against Chemeketa. A third-place finish in the South Region will play Walla Walla Community College (13-3-3, 7-3-2) Wednesday November 2 in the first round of the Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road in Coos Bay taking on Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) Saturday October 22. RCC fell behind early in the match and worked their way back to within a goal only to run out of time and fall 2-1.

The Ospreys (3-6-6, 1-3-6) were caught off guard early in the match against SWOCC (7-3-2, 5-3-2) when they hit a long ball from outside the box that would hit the crossbar and backspin into the goal. They would go into the half down 1-0. In the second half the Ospreys would give up a second goal before find one of their own in the 80’ when Bruce McCole headed one into the net. They would come up short and fall 2-1.

The Ospreys are at home for their final match of the regular season this coming Wednesday October 22 when they host Portland Community College (2-7-4, 2-6-3) at 1:30 p.m. The Ospreys sit in a tie for fourth place and will need to win Wednesday and get some help to make the playoffs.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road in Oregon City Saturday October 22 taking on Clackamas Community College (CCC). RCC started off strong holding off CCC in a long first set and then rolling to a second set win. CCC put up a fight in the third but RCC closed out the match in the fourth for a 3-1 (31-29, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20) win.

The Ospreys (11-13, 8-4) control third place in the South Region and wanted to maintain their lead two-game with a win over CCC (2-20, 0-12). A long first set saw both teams with a chance to win but the Ospreys would gut it out and take the win. A confident win in the second set was leading to a sweep only to see CCC come from behind and take the third set. The two teams would battle in the fourth set with the Ospreys jumping out ahead late and holding on to win 3-1.

Tessa Frodge had 26 Kills and 23 Digs, Teiva Miller had 13 Kills, Kylie Anderson had 26 Digs, Autumn Williams had 17 Digs, and Jordyn McCutcheon had 44 Assists and 7 Digs. 

The Ospreys will be at home for their next two matches. The first of two is Friday October 28 at 6 p.m. when they host Lane Community College (17-2, 10-2) for the Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness home event. The Ospreys sit in third place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road Friday October 21 taking on Chemeketa Community College (CCC). The first meeting between the two was a five-set battle and the rematch was another thriller. RCC went back and forth, set for set, to win 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 26-24, 20-25, 16-14) and take a two-game lead on third place in the South Region.

The Ospreys (10-13, 7-4) had been on a run lately as they look to secure a playoff spot with only 5 games remaining. They started off strong against CCC (6-9, 5-6) by taking the first set, only to see the match go back and forth pushing to a fifth set where they would take the two-point win.

Tessa Frodge once again was out front for the Ospreys with 31 Kills and 18 Digs. Teiva Miller had 10 Kills, Kylie Anderson had 42 Digs, and Jordyn McCutcheon had 44 Assists.

The Ospreys will take on Clackamas Community College (2-19, 0-11) tomorrow, Saturday October 21, at 2 p.m. They currently sit in third place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team hosted Clark College (CC) Saturday October 15. RCC saw a repeat of the night before as they fell behind by two sets only to charge back and take the final three sets for a 3-2 (20-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 15-13) win. After this match Tessa Frodge, of Crater High School, becomes the NWAC Kills leader, the single season RCC Kills record holder, and the RCC Career Kills record holder.

The Ospreys (9-13, 6-4) continued to play hard missing two key players and once again found themselves in a five-set battle this time with CC (12-10, 5-5). The Ospreys took a while to get started but once they did they opened up and used their stellar defense to keep their offense in the game. They charge back from an 0-2 deficit playing in tight sets throughout the afternoon with Kailani Medeiros getting her eighth block of the night to seal the win.

The Ospreys will be on the road for their next two matches. First up is a rematch with Chemeketa Community College (6-8, 5-5) on Friday October 21 in Salem OR at 6 p.m. The Ospreys now control third place in the South Region with six games to play in the regular season.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team hosted Chemeketa Community College (CCC) Saturday October 15. RCC has to win out over their final three games to secure a playoff spot and they got it started with a 2-1 win off a stoppage time penalty kick from Victor Martinez to notch the first South Region win of the year.

The Ospreys (3-5-6, 1-3-6) went into today knowing they had to win out to get to the playoffs after a season full of draws. They would face the always tough CC (2-8-2, 2-6-2) and the match would play out as it often does between the two teams. Possession based play with lots of opportunities to score. Neither would find one in the first half though and the teams would head into the break tied.

The second half saw CC get on top as they flicked an amazing header into the goal in the 55’. In the 80’ minute Theo Bergman would be on the back post as a corner kick was played in, he collected the ball in the scrum and put it into the net to equalize. Late in stoppage time Isaac Herrera would make the play to get fouled by the keeper in the box to set up the Victor Martinez penalty kick in the 94’ that would be the deciding goal. The Ospreys get their first South Region win of the year with a 2-1 result.

The Ospreys are on the road for their next match when they take on Southwestern Oregon Community College (7-3-1, 5-3-1) in Coos Bay on Saturday October 22. They currently sit in third place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team hosted Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Friday October 14. RCC took a set to get going, falling behind early, only to charge back behind the strength of their big three taking the final three sets to win the match 3-2 (15-25, 24-26, 25-21, 26-24, 15-10).

The Ospreys (8-13, 5-4) were still down two key players as they headed into the pivotal match against MHCC (9-8, 4-5) looking to take control of playoff positioning. The first set put the Ospreys on their heels as MHCC built small runs into a confident win. The second showed the fight as the two teams played close only to see the Ospreys fall short.

In the third set the team found their flow as they were led by Tessa Frodge with 31 kills hitting .342. Teiva Miller had 15 kills and both benefited from Jordyn McCutcheon who had 46 assists and 20 digs. Kylie Anderson had 30 digs as she continues her stellar sophomore season. The Ospreys would use their strong defensive to create opportunities and control the final three sets coming from behind to move up into a tie for third place in the South Region.

A win tomorrow, Saturday October 15, against Clark College (12-9, 5-4) would put the Ospreys into sole possession of third place with six games remaining. The match starts at 2 p.m. at the Court House Family Fitness in Medford.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road Wednesday October 12 taking on Lane Community College (LCC). The two teams have been closely matched this season, drawing in their previous two matches, and once again played close to a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the second half.

The Ospreys (2-5-6, 0-3-6) were starting off the final third of the regular season against LCC (7-1-3, 6-0-3) looking to pick up points and get closer to the final playoff position. The two teams would get limited chances in the first half and neither would score.

LCC would strike first in the second half after a penalty kick was awarded in the 49’. Moments later, in the 53’, Cody Brinkerhoff would play a ball to a streaking Victor Martinez who put away his one on one opportunity to equalize. The two teams would go back and forth but would end in the 1-1 draw.

The Ospreys will be at home for their next match when they host Chemeketa Community College (1-7-2, 1-5-2) Saturday October 15 at 12 p.m. The Ospreys currently sit in fourth place in the South Region two points back from third.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was hosting Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) Saturday October 8. The match would go into the half scoreless before RCC would take the lead behind a Jonny Herrera goal only to see SWOCC equalize late and then score a 90’ goal to win 2-1.

The Ospreys (2-5-5, 0-3-5) have been looking for their first region win of the year after a season of ties. They started off strong against SWOCC (7-2-1, 5-2-1) as they controlled the pace of play and got quality chances on goal. Neither team could find the net and they would head to half 0-0.

The Ospreys took the lead in the 49’ when Jonny Herrera took a shot from distance and it went through the keeper’s legs to give them the advantage. In the 72’ minute SWOCC would equalize and then in the 90’ they would find a back-post header to take the advantage and win the match 2-1.

The Ospreys enter the final third of the season in a tie for fourth place in the South Region needing to get to third to qualify for playoffs. Their next match will be on the road against Lane Community College (7-1-2, 6-0-2) in Eugene on Wednesday October 12 at 1:30 p.m.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road Wednesday October 7 taking on Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC). RCC was without two starters in the match and it made the difference. After falling in a close first set RCC rolled through sets two and three only to see SWOCC charge back taking the fourth set and then controlling the fifth to win. RCC falls 2-3 (22-25, 25-16, 25-13, 22-25, 7-15).

The Ospreys (7-13, 4-4) were shorthanded taking on SWOCC (7-12, 2-6) without starters Williams and Tauanuu. The first set was a close match with SWOCC pulling ahead late and holding on to win. The second and third sets were nearly identical as the Ospreys took the early lead and cruised to a strong finish. In the fourth set SWOCC fought back as the Ospreys fell in an early hole before closing the gap. In the fifth they were tied up to 5-5 before SWOCC went on a run and didn’t look back winning 3-2.

The Ospreys are at home for their next two matches. The first is against Mt. Hood Community College (9-7, 4-4) Friday October 14 at 6 p.m. in Medford. The Ospreys sit in a three-way tie for fourth place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road Wednesday October 5 taking on Chemeketa Community College (CCC). RCC took the lead early only to allow two goals to go into the half down 2-1. They would equalize early in the second only to give up a PK late to drop the match 2-3.

The Ospreys (2-4-5, 0-2-5) started the second half of the season against CCC (1-7-2, 1-5-2). They got up early when Isaac Herrera put one into the back of the net. CCC would storm back as they put two goals in to take the lead before the teams went into the half.

The Ospreys came out hot in the second half when Victor Martinez scored to equalize. Then late in the second CCC would be rewarded a penalty kick that would be the deciding goal. The Ospreys fell 2-3.

The Ospreys are at home for their next match when the host Southwestern Oregon Community College (6-2-1, 4-2-1) at home Saturday October 8 at 12 p.m. at Lithia and Driveway Fields in Medford. The Ospreys sit in a tie for fourth in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was hosting Umpqua Community College (UCC) Wednesday October 5. RCC would lose a key player early on and push through to take the early lead only to stumble in the middle having to overcome an eight-point deficit in the third set to then find a grove and win the match 3-1 (25-20, 12-25, 25-23, 25-21).

The Ospreys (7-12, 4-3) were looking to keep their momentum up after narrowly taking down the number one team in their last match. They would face an immediate challenge against UCC (13-10, 3-5) when Precious Tauanuu would go down after colliding with the referee stand and would not return to the match. Autumn Williams came in to replace her and showed off her hitting ability while maintaining her solid defense.

The Ospreys would battle through the first set only to fall apart in the second set. In the third it was more of the same before a mid-set timeout reset the Ospreys and saw them overcome the eight-point deficit to win the third and then control their way through the fourth to a 3-1 win.

The Ospreys are on the road for their next match when they take on Southwestern Community College (6-12, 1-6) Friday October 7 at 6 p.m. in Coos Bay, OR. The Ospreys sit in fourth place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road in Albany OR taking on No. 1 ranked Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) Saturday October 1. RCC pushed LBCC to its limits in a five-set battle. LBCC commanded the first two sets only for RCC to push back winning sets three and four before a point for point battle in the fifth set with LBCC coming out on top and winning the match 3-2 (10-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 20-18).

The Ospreys (6-12, 3-3) were up against the returning NWAC champions and current No. 1 ranked team in LBCC (19-1, 6-0). They continue to improve match after match showing that they can content with the best of the best. After falling in the first two sets with out much resistance the Ospreys turned it around and controlled both sets three and four to push for a tie breaking fifth set. They went back and forth with the Ospreys twice have the one-point advantage to win only to see LBCC hold strong and win the match 3-2.

The Ospreys are home for the next match when they host Umpqua Community College (12-9, 3-4) Wednesday October 5th at 6 p.m. The Ospreys sit in a three-way tie for fourth place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road in Eugene OR taking on Lane Community College (LCC) Friday September 30. RCC had a tall task in No. 3 ranked LCC and they started off by taking the first set only to battle for the next three but ultimately fall 1-3 (25-21, 22-25, 13-25, 23-25).

The Ospreys (6-11, 3-2) were taking on LCC (11-1, 4-1) looking to pull an upset on the No. 3 ranked Titans. They held strong in three out of four sets, sitting with a lead late, but couldn’t close out with a victory falling 1-3 in the match. They were led by Tessa Frodge with 20 kills, Teiva Miller and Kylie Anderson with 23 combined digs, and Jordyn McCutcheon with 31 assists.

The Ospreys will take on No. 1 ranked Linn-Benton Community College (18-1, 5-0) tomorrow, Saturday October 1, in Albany OR at 2 p.m. to close out their road trip. The Ospreys sit in tie for third place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team hosted Portland Community College (PCC) Wednesday September 28. The first half was a defensive statement as neither team could get a quality look. RCC would score late in the second half only to see PCC equalize with minutes to go to end in a 1-1 draw.

The Ospreys (2-3-5, 0-1-5) have been close all season but keep landing in a draw. The match against PCC (1-3-3, 1-2-2) would prove to be more of the same. In the second half Jorge Mejia crossed a ball into the box and Randy Rodriguez would make sure it went in to put the Ospreys up in the 77'.

In the 86' PCC would play the ball in and keeper Gio Rodriguez knocked it away only to see it drilled right back at him to equalize. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, the fifth of the year for the Ospreys.

The Ospreys are on the road for their next match when they head to Salem, OR to take on Chemeketa Community College (0-6-2, 0-4-2) Wednesday October 5th. The Ospreys sit in a tie for third in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road against Lane Community College (LCC) Saturday September 24. It was a defensive match as neither side had many opportunities and neither capitalized on the ones they had as they would end in a 0-0 draw.

The Ospreys (2-3-4, 0-1-4) have played well all season but have struggled to find the net when needed to. Against LCC (4-1-2, 3-0-2) it proved to be the case once again as both sides only had thirteen shots combined. The battle would end in the 0-0 draw, the Ospreys fourth of the season.

The Ospreys are at home for their next match when they host Portland Community College (1-3-2, 1-2-1). They will kickoff at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 28 at Lithia and Driveway Fields. The Ospreys sit in fourth place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was scheduled to play Clackamas Community College (CCC) Saturday September 24. CCC forfeited the match the morning of due to not having enough players to play. Complications from injuries and COVID impacted their roster. RCC picks up the win by forfeit.

The Ospreys (6-10, 3-1) will collect the win from CCC (2-11, 0-3) and head into a two-game road trip next weekend. It starts with Lane Community College (10-0, 3-0) Friday September 30 at 6 p.m. The Ospreys currently sit in third place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was playing in its first home match of the season Friday September 23. They hosted Chemeketa Community College (CCC) taking a 2-0 lead after the first two sets only to see CCC charge back and push it to a fifth set. RCC held the lead late only to fall just short 13-15 in the final set losing 2-3 (25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 13-15) in the match.

The Ospreys (5-10, 2-1) were going point for point with CCC (2-5, 1-2) through the first two sets only to see the Ospreys pull ahead late and secure the win. In the third set the Ospreys fell behind big only to charge back but fall short. The fourth set seemed like a repeat of the third as they fell behind only to charge back and fall short.

In the fifth set the Ospreys were in control late with a two-point advantage only to see CCC close out the match on a four-point run winning 15-13.

The Ospreys will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday September 24, when they host Clackamas Community College (2-11, 0-3) at 2 p.m. The Ospreys currently sit in the 3rd place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road Wednesday September 21 taking on Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC). The Ospreys fell behind in the first half, only to equalize in the second, and then allow a second half goal to fall 2-1 and drop the match.

The Ospreys (2-3-3, 0-1-3) played a tough first half only giving up a single shot on target to SWOCC (5-1, 3-1) but it was the shot that made the difference as they were able to find the net and take the 1-0 lead going into the half.

The Ospreys would equalize three minutes into the second half when Brandon Mendez would play a ball off a free kick from the right side to the back post where Bryce McCole would head it in to bring it to a 1-1 tie. Later SWOCC would be granted a free kick from the top of the box and would bury it giving them the 2-1 lead. They would hold on to close out the match.

The Ospreys are on the road for their next match when they take on Lane Community College (3-1-2, 2-0-2) Saturday September 23 at 12 p.m. in Eugene Or. The Ospreys sit in 4th place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road for the Columbia Basin Crossover in Pasco, WA. Closing day of the event saw RCC match up against tournament host Columbia Basin College (CBC) where they would lose Tessa Frodge to injury while battling but ultimately fall 0-3 (13-25, 18-25, 13-25). The final match of the event was against Bellevue College (BC). RCC came to play even when shorthanded but they didn’t have enough and fell 0-3 (16-25, 19-25, 13-25).

The Ospreys (5-9, 2-0) were up against the second ranked NWAC team in CBC (13-0, 1-0) to open the closing day of the crossover. They played the team close and tough, losing lead hitter Tessa Frodge to a sprained ankle early on, and couldn’t overcome the talented CBC team falling in three sets.

They closed out the event against BC (14-5) having to play with now three starters out due to illness and injury. The depleted team still fought hard, taking a give point lead in the second set, but fell in three sets.

The Ospreys will be at home for the first time this season when they host Chemeketa Community College (0-4, 0-2) Friday September 23 at 6 p.m. They Ospreys sit in a three-way tie for first in the South Region with two games played.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team is on the road for the Columbia Basin Crossover in Pasco, WA. Day one of the event saw RCC match up against Whatcom Community College (WCC) for the third time. They battled tough but ultimately fell 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 22-25). The second match saw them take on Centralia Community College (CCC) where they would turn the tables and win 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19) splitting the matches on the day.

The Ospreys (5-7, 2-0) were once again up against a top team from the North in WCC (9-2) to open Crossover play. The Ospreys stood tough and found their points, improving with each set, but ultimately fell short and lost the match 0-3.

The second match against CCC (0-13) saw the Ospreys find their gear as they would control the first two sets, fall behind in the third, but ultimately get the 3-0 sweep to close out day one.

They will be back in action again tomorrow against tournament host Columbia Basin College (10-0, 1-0) at 11 a.m. with a fourth match later that afternoon. The Ospreys will return to South Region play Friday September 23 in their first home game of the year against Chemeketa Community College (0-4, 0-2).

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was at home against Chemeketa Community College (CCC) Saturday September 17. RCC started quick with a goal in the first minute only to go back and forth in scoring with CCC ending with a 2-2 draw.

The Ospreys (2-2-3, 0-0-3) jumped out of the gate when Brandon Mendez played a long ball past the back line to a streaking Isaac Herrera who would put it past the keeper to go up 1-0 in the first minute. In the 24’ CCC (0-5-1, 0-3-1) would earn a penalty kick and equalize putting the teams tied 1-1 at the half.

The Ospreys got going quick again as the second half got underway when Mendez found Gabe Dyer for a header goal on a corner kick in the 55’ to go up 2-1. Then in the 69’ CCC would cross the ball in for a back-post header to equalize once again. The teams would go back and forth but would end in the 2-2 draw.

The Ospreys remain unbeaten in their past five matches but are still searching for their first win in South Region play. They will be on the road next Wednesday September 21 in Coos Bay taking on Southwestern Community College (4-1, 2-1). The Ospreys find themselves in 4th place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) volleyball team was on the road against Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Friday September 9 and Clark College (CC) Saturday September 10 to open South Region play. The Ospreys fell just short in the first set against MHCC only to come back with three straight sets to win the match 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16). Against CC the Ospreys started slow but kicked into gear to go 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-9) and sweep opening weekend.

The Ospreys (4-6, 2-0) were looking to start strong in South Region play against MHCC (4-2, 1-1). The first set was a back and forth battle, point for point, that saw MHCC pull ahead after a tie at 23 to win the set by two. After that the Ospreys got going behind setter Jordyn McCutcheon who had 38 assists, Tessa Frodge with 17 kills, and Kylie Anderson with 28 digs. They would close out the match with a 3-1 win.

Against CC (4-4, 1-1) the Ospreys were slow to start keeping CC in the game with unforced errors. As the match went on they cleaned up their game and found their groove being led by McCutcheon with 39 assists, Frodge with 22 kills, and Anderson with 17 digs. They would sweep the match 3-0.

The Ospreys are on the road for region crossover tournament in Pasco WA next weekend. They will continue South Region play at home Friday September 23 against Chemeketa Community College (0-2, 0-2). The Ospreys currently sit in a three-way tie for first place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was on the road Friday September 9 taking on Portland Community College (PCC). The match proved to be a defensive stalemate as neither side were able to generate a goal. The match would end in a 0-0 tie.

The Ospreys (2-2-2, 0-0-2) were on the road for the first time in the regular season when they took on PCC (0-1-2, 0-0-1). Both teams battled back and forth throughout the ninety minutes but neither team could generate a scoring opportunity. Both teams collect a point from the match.

The Ospreys will be home for their next match on Saturday September 17. They will host Chemeketa Community College (0-3-0, 0-1-0) at Lithia and Driveway Fields at 12 p.m. The Ospreys currently sit in second place in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men's soccer team earned a bit of praise Wednesday September 7. Local Phoenix high school standout Victor Martinez was named the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Offensive Player of the Week for week 2.

Martinez had two game winning goals and an assist during the Spokane Community College and North Idaho College games. He scored his third goal of the season earlier today against Lane Community College and is on his way to making a name for himself at the college level.

Victor and the Men’s Soccer team will be in action again Friday September 7 on the road against Portland Community College with a 3 p.m. kickoff. They currently sit in a tie for second in the South Region.

MEDFORD, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men's soccer team opened South Region play when they hosted Lane Community College (LCC) Wednesday September 7 at Lithia and Driveway Fields. After a scoreless first half the Ospreys found the net twice only to see LCC score in stoppage time to equalize and earn the 2-2 draw.

The Ospreys (2-2-1, 0-0-1) faced a fevered attack from LCC (1-1-1, 0-0-1) in the first thirty minutes of the first half. Starting keeper Gio Rodriguez had six saves before leaving with an injury in the 40’. The Osprey defense would hold and the teams would head to the half scoreless.

LCC would earn a penalty kick in the 55’ and convert only to see the Ospreys counter in the 58’ when Isaac Herrera set up Victor Martinez for a volley right down the middle to equalize. Bryce McCole would earn a penalty kick in the 69’ to take the lead. But in stoppage time LCC served a corner kick into the box and found a header goal to equalize before time expired to force a 2-2 draw.

The Ospreys will be on the road for their next match. They take on Portland Community College (0-1-1, 0-0-0) at 3 p.m. on Friday September 9.

The Ospreys will open South Region play at home Wednesday September 7 at 1:30 p.m. against Lane Community College (1-1-0) at Lithia and Driveway Fields in Medford.

GRANTS PASS, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was in Spokane Washington taking on Spokane Community College (SCC) at 5 p.m. on Saturday September 3. After a scoreless first half the Ospreys found two goals in the second and held on to win 2-1.

The Ospreys (2-2-0) were looking to sweep their two-game road trip before region play begins next week. The first half against SCC (0-1-0) saw limited opportunities from both sides as neither could find the net. They went into the half scoreless.

The action began in the 47’ when Johnny McCoy went unassisted and found the net to give the Ospreys the lead. Spokane would equalize in the 56’ only for Victor Martinez to score the go ahead goal unassisted in the 68’. The Ospreys would hold onto the lead to win 2-1.

The Ospreys will open South Region play at home Wednesday September 7 at 1:30 p.m. against Lane Community College (1-1-0) at Lithia and Driveway Fields in Medford.

GRANTS PASS, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys Volleyball team was on the road in Spokane Washington for the Spokane Invitational. They played a total of four matches, two per day, on Friday September 1 and Saturday September 2. The Ospreys went 1-3 on the weekend closing out with a 3-0 win against tournament host Spokane.

The Ospreys (2-6) fell to Everett Community College (5-3) 1-3, and North Idaho College (6-0) 0-3 on the first day. On day two they faced Whatcom Community College (6-1) and they fell in four. They closed out against tournament host Spokane Community College (2-6) putting together a consistent match to end on a high note with a 3-0 win.

The Ospreys will open South Region play on the road this coming Friday September 9 at 6 p.m. against Mt. Hood Community College (3-1).

GRANTS PASS, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s soccer team was in Coeur d’Alene Idaho taking on North Idaho College (NIC) at 5 p.m. on Friday September 2. They gave up a goal early in the first half only to rally in the second with three goals to win 3-1.

The Ospreys (1-2-0) were on road against NIC (1-3-0) in the first of two games on the weekend. They couldn’t find the net with their opportunities in the first half and gave up a goal in the 23’ to go into the half down 1-0.

They changed up the lineup for the second half and cracked open the damn putting in their first 3 goals of the season. Ricky Escobar scored in the 64’, assisted by Victor Martinez. Martinez got his own in the 74’ off an assist from Isaac Herrera who would find Randy Rodriguez in the 87’ to put the game away with 3-1 win.

They Ospreys will face Spokane Community College (0-0-0) tomorrow, Saturday September 3 at 5 p.m. before beginning South Region play on Wednesday September 7.

GRANTS PASS, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys Volleyball teamed finished up the North Region Invitational in Mount Vernon Saturday August 27. They faced Skagit Valley College (SVC) at 10 a.m. and Shoreline Community College (SCC) at 4 p.m. They fell short against SVC in another closely contested five-set match, falling 2-3 (25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-17) and notched their first win with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-17) result against SCC.

The Ospreys (1-3) faced second day host SVC (2-1) looking for their first win. The match went back and forth as each team found their openings, with the Ospreys coming from behind to push it to set five, only to fall just short in the fifth set.

They faced SCC (0-4) to close out the weekend. The first two sets were closely contested before the Ospreys took control in the third and fourth sets and closed out their first season win 3-1.

The Ospreys will be back in action Friday September 2 at the Spokane Invitational when they face Everett Community College (1-1) at 2 p.m. and North Idaho College (3-0) at 5 p.m. Region play for the Ospreys begins Friday September 9.

GRANTS PASS, OR – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys Volleyball teamed opened their season at the North Region Invitational in Bellingham Washington Friday August 26. They faced Whatcom Community College (WCC) at 10 a.m. and Everett Community College (ECC) at 4 p.m. Both were closely contested five-set matches that saw the Ospreys fall just short with a 2-3 (25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 22-25, 11-15) loss to WCC, and a 2-3 (25-19, 25-15, 19-25, 17-25, 7-15) loss to ECC.

The Ospreys (0-2) opened their season against the hosting WCC (1-0). The match went back and forth as each team found their openings, with the Ospreys coming from behind to take set three, only to fall in the fifth set.

They faced ECC (1-1) later that afternoon and came out strong, taking the first two sets, only to struggle in the back half and give up the final three sets, falling in the fifth.

The Ospreys will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday August 27, taking on Skagit Valley College (1-0) at 10 a.m. and Shoreline Community College (0-1) at 4 p.m. Region play for the Ospreys begins Friday September 9.

GRANTS PASS, OR – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Men's Soccer opened their 8th season in Seattle WA at the NWAC Friendlies. The faced Tacoma Community College on Tuesday August 23th falling 0-3 and Peninsula College Wednesday August 24th falling 0-7. The team will play two more matches before beginning season play on September 7th. They will be looking to get back on track and get back to the Final Four after their first appearance in 2021.

The Ospreys (0-2-0) opened against Tacoma (2-0-0) at the NWAC Friendlies. A matchup of two 2021 Final Four teams. Tacoma knocked in two goals in the first half before securing their win with a third goal in the second half.

We would face Peninsula (2-0-0) on the second day in a rematch of the 2021 Elite 8 matchup that send us to the Final Four. Peninsula came out hot putting in three goals in the first half and followed up with four goals in the second.

The Ospreys will be on the road for their next two matches when they face North Idaho (1-1-0) on Friday September 2nd and Spokane Community College (0-0-0) on Saturday September 3rd. Region play begins on September 7th.
