TRIO/SSS Services

University Transfer TRIO/SSS on the Redwood and Riverside Campuses provides a variety of services at no charge for students who intend to transfer to a 4-year college or university who meet the eligibility requirements.

Services include the following:

Oregon Shakespeare Festival
  • Academic and transfer advising
  • Career and financial planning
  • Calculator check-out
  • Commencement Ceremony
    • Students receiving a degree from RCC are encouraged to attend
    • Graduation cap/gown loan program is available
  • Computer lab with free printing
  • Cultural enrichment activities
  • Graduation/Transfer Celebration
    • Towards the end of Spring term graduating and/or transferring students will be honored at a luncheon
  • Network of friends, faculty and staff
  • Scholarships
  • Student lounge with kitchen, computers, printers and resource lending library
  • Study and support groups
  • Tuition-free transfer courses
    • HD114 is a life skills class
    • HD215is a transfer preparation class that is taken right before one transfers

University Transfer TRiO/SSS may help you:
  • Create a plan for a successful transfer
  • Increase test scores

To be eligible, students must have the intent to transfer to a 4-year college or university and have either:
  • Been raised by parent or caregiver who has not earned a bachelor’s degree
    (first generation college student).
  • Low income OR
  • Documented disability
University Transfer TRIO/SSS is now accepting applications! If you are a student who qualifies and you will be attending classes at Rogue Community College, you can begin to apply for services NOW. If you have any questions please call 541-956-7342 or stop by our offices in the Looking Glass (L) building in Grants Pass or the SSC/B building in Medford.

Students helping students! The University Transfer - TRIO/SSS peer tutoring program gives students more meaningful responsibilities through helping and leading others.

Becoming a Peer Tutor for the University Transfer, TRIO/SSS program can:

  • Share subject knowledge
  • Network with TRIO/SSS students
  • Advance toward career goals
  • Gain valuable work experience
  • Pay for college expenses
  • Simply have fun while helping others succeed

To be Eligible you must:

  • Hold a 3.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in 6 or more credits
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Have passed the subject tutoring in within a year at RCC and received a B or above
  • No prior tutoring experience needed
  • ALL RCC students meeting the above requirements are eligible to apply

We pay $13.75/hr and have a flexible schedule around classes, and will never work you beyond 5pm or on weekends!

Scholarship Details and Screening Process

University Transfer - TRIO/Student Support Services is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 scholarship (link downloads fillable Word doc).  This is Federal money awarded through the US Department of Education. To be eligible, you must be receiving the Federal Pell grant.  To determine if you are receiving Pell, check your RCC Award Letter for the 2021-2022 academic year. These funds are provided by the US Department of Education to assist students with their financial burden and may help reduce the student's loan debt. In addition, these funds are expected to assist in the retention and graduation of University Transfer - TRiO/SSS students.

To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria. Please use this as a checklist.

  • Be an active University Transfer - TRiO/SSS participant prior to November 30, 2021.
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 credits during winter, and spring terms 2021-2022.
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Have an updated Individual Success Plan (ISP). Please make an appointment with University Transfer – TRIO/SSS if you need to update your plan.
  • Be receiving a Pell Grant during the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Complete the packet and attach all of the necessary paperwork (listed on page 2.)
  • Submit the typed application no later than 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.

Late applications will not be accepted.

Screening will begin Wednesday, December 1, 2021.  The screening committee will consist of a RCC faculty member, a Financial Aid representative, and a RCC Foundation representative.  Applications will be scored on a rubric with a point system. Ten scholarships valued at a $1000 each will be awarded for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Description:
Prepares TRiO students for transfer to a four-year college or university. Students will receive training in CIS (Career Information Systems) and use various school web sites to aid in decision making.
