Fire Behavior and Combustion (Fall 2023)

Assists students in gaining an understanding of the theories and fundamentals of how and why fires start and spread, as well as how they are controlled. Students will develop and enhance their knowledge of combustion reactions in solids, liquids, and gasses. Students will demonstrate an understanding of English and System International (SI) measurements, the physical and chemical properties of combustion, terminology associated with fire and combustion, and demonstrate an applied knowledge of fire suppression and fire dynamics.
  • Students must register with a Permission Code, if you do not have the Permission Code contact the instructor before the term begins.
  • Hybrid Classes: This course will run in hybrid format with some course content delivered in person and some online. Specific schedules will be sent out to students on what sessions to attend prior to the class starting. Information about Web-based classes and required orientations can be found at
  • FRP256: In order to attend this course you must be enrolled in FRP251/251L, have taken FRP251/251L in the past or have your Oregon DPSST Firefighter 1 certification in hand
