Keeping Honey Bees (Summer 2021)

- This is an overview course conducted online (via Zoom) is intended to give the learner material that will help them to understand the nature of honey bees, how they fit into the ecosystem and agriculture, their nature and care. Class will cover best practices in beekeeping, honey bee care requirements, bee anatomy and physiology, equipment, disease and pest management, as well as harvesting honey. The text used is “Storey’s Guide to Keeping Honey Bees”, 2nd edition, by authors Malcolm T. Sanford and Richard E. Bonney. The text can be purchased from Amazon for approximately $20.

- Zoom Classes: Class will meet during the listed times via Zoom. Information about Zoom-based classes will be available in the course Blackboard shell on the first day of the term. All teachers expect students to participate in the class on the first day of the term. Students not participating during the first day may be subject to administrative drop. Students should have access to a web cam and audio capabilities on their computer to fully participate in a Zoom class. Some Zoom classes are delivered in hybrid format and will have additional course participation requirements outside of Zoom sessions.
