Artwork by local, regional, national, and international emerging
artists which challenges preconceived ideas and attitudes, is featured in
RCC's FireHouse Gallery. A variety of art educates and inspires viewers
from the college and community. First Friday Art Night receptions are
held monthly at the gallery.
An annual highlight of the FireHouse exhibit schedule is a one-month
showing of work donated by local artists for the Black, White & the Blues
art auction and dance.
The gallery is located at the corner of H and Fourth Streets in
the Historic City Hall, Grants Pass, Oregon. Our hours are Tuesday - Friday, 11:30am to 4:30pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm, or tours by appointment.

|  Dates: March 5-21, 2009 Artist: Thomas Kirchen Title: The Intimate Landscape Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: digital photography Description: Kirchen creates simple intimate views within the grand vistas of the landscape. These images contain recognizable elements that often go unnoticed by most busy people. The viewer is encouraged to share a renewed
awareness of the natural world.
|  Dates: April 1-25, 2009 Artist: Cory Peek and John Townsend Title: Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: Installation Description: Peek and Townsend help us to contemplate our cultural fears and the things we refuse to examine.
Peeke’s two dimensional mixed media juxtaposition of idealized images of men against the images of real men encourages us to question societies’ concepts of beauty and focus on the complex and suppressed relationship of men to their physical form in a public venue. Townsend’s use of found and salvaged objects explores our cultural fears, unifying us by our imperfections, bonding us by our faults and shortcomings and the things we refuse to examine.

Includes work by Bobbie Blakely, Tommi Drake, Karl Brake, Janet Higgins, Eric Gorder, Pat Enos, Tom Wilson, Madalin Blue, Walt Peterson and Phyllis Trowbridge.
|  Dates: May 20 - June 27, 2009 Artist: Selected Oregon Artists and Writers Title: Perceptions of the Past Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: photographs, poems, prose and mixed media Description: In celebration of Oregon's 150th year of statehood, thirteen professional writers from throughout the state have written a subjective description of an historical Oregon photograp. The description is then sent on to thirteen professional artists who create a two-dimensional piece based on the written description. The "Perceptions of the Past" exhibit consists of a framed enlargement of each historical photo matched with a framed and signed version of its written description and the artist's interpretation.

They are fed by politics, war and pop culture, and geared toward the raising of consciousness.
