Are you ready? Here are your topics:
TOPIC #1: Writing Tips on How to Evoke Emotions in Your Readers
As a writer, how do you evoke emotions from your readers? For example, what would you write that would make them cry or make them sad? This is not only about what you would write, but how you would write it.
TOPIC #2: Writing Tips From Nonfiction Writers
Nonfiction writing means it is based on a real story or real facts. Examples would be biographies or true crime novels. What are some tips for successful non-fiction writing? What facts would draw a reader in from page one to the final chapter?
TOPIC #3: The Dos and Don'ts of Novel Endings
What makes a great novel? Think of War and Peace or The Notebook. As a writer, what are the Dos and Don'ts when it comes to novel endings? Is it always the best approach to end a sad story with a happy ending or do you want to surprise your readers?
TOPIC #4: How and Where to Get Your Book Published
The days of finding a book agent who finds a publisher have made way to new and novel ways of getting a book published. What are the different ways authors can publish their books these days? What are the associated costs? What are the benefits and downside in going the traditional publication route versus some of the newer ones?
TOPIC #5: Is It Worth Going to College?
This is a controversial issue these days as the costs of a college education and the resulting debt has become a big news story. What are the benefits of a 4-year degree? Is it for everyone? If so, why and if not, why not?
Don't be discouraged if you are not selected as one of the three winners. You've made the leap and have written an essay and that's commendable. So have fun with this and good luck!
