Description:
Rogue Community College (RCC) recently received a $5,000 grant award from State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company (State Farm) to assist with the cost of high school driver training.

High school driver training serves over 600 local teens per year, but low-income families often have a hard time affording the cost of tuition. This State Farm grant will provide up to a $50 scholarship for students who need financial assistance. This grant, in combination with other discounts and scholarship options currently provided by ODOT to eligible students, will help many local youths to get this much-needed training they may not otherwise afford.

Upon successful completion of this program, qualified students will receive a Certificate of Completion from ODOT, which doubles as a waiver for the drive test portion when they obtain their driver's license at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Students the age of 18 or older, or those who already have a driver's license may still enroll in the program, but they will not qualify for the scholarships or tuition assistance.

Training is offered year-round and runs approximately 10 weeks. It includes 30 hours of classroom learning, six hours of behind-the-wheel driving, and six hours of in-car observation. During summer term the courses are limited to two six-week sessions.

Statistically, students who participate and complete the program are far safer drivers than those who do not. All program information will include State Farm’s name and logo.
