Description:
CSHEMA offers a $2,000 scholarship (and a waiver to attend the CSHEMA annual conference) to encourage the study of environmental and occupational health, safety, and related disciplines.

Since 1977, the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) has sponsored an annual Scholarship Award Program to encourage the study of safety and environmental management.

The scholarship, which is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Fay Thompson, will be presented or announced at the annual CSHEMA International Conference. The scholarship winner is awarded $2,000 and an invitation to attend the CSHEMA annual conference (registration, hotel, and airfare included).

Eligibility:
The program is open to all college undergraduate and graduate students in all majors/disciplines enrolled in 12 credit hours per semester, trimester, or quarter.

The scholarship is open to undergraduate students preferably enrolled in majors geared toward an Environmental Health & Safety career (such as, but not limited to, Environmental Science, Fire Protection, Health Physics, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Safety, etc.) who are currently registered as full-time students in North America. A full-time student is one who is carrying 12 credit hours per semester, trimester or quarter.

Applicants must have at least one full year of study remaining in their degree program. To be considered for the award, students must meet the following requirements:

1) submit an official transcript with a minimum grade point average
(GPA) of 2.5;
2) complete application form;
3) write and submit an essay (see Section III). The application, essay and an official transcript (delivered in sealed envelope with university/college seal) must be placed in the same envelope and mailed by March 31 to the address above. Any additional, extraneous materials (photos, resumes, research materials, etc.) will not be considered and will be discarded.

Essay question: "Describe an occupational health, occupational safety or campus environmental issue relevant to your university/ college or community (provide supporting information, facts and data). Examine and discuss what actions and/or programs are needed to solve this issue.”

The essay must have the applicant's full name and the school name at the top of the page, centered in a header, and must be a maximum of one page in length, single-spaced, with 1" margins and a font size of ten (10). Handwritten submittals will not be accepted and will automatically disqualify the applicant.
