Amount:
The total of scholarships for the 2015 Program is $200,000, and will be allocated in the following amounts:

- Grand Scholarship Recipients (3): $15,000
– Board of Directors Scholarship (1): $10,000
– Life Lessons Swiss Re Scholarship (1): $10,000
– First Runners-Up (10): $8,000
– Second Runners-Up (11): $5,000
Description:
Recognizing the character and perseverance that so many young people show in the face of such adversity, Life Happens sponsors the annual Life Lessons Scholarship Program for college students and college-bound high school seniors. Qualified entrants who submit essays or videos about how the death of a parent impacted their lives are eligible for scholarship money. Over a million dollars in college scholarships have been awarded over the years.

The Life Lessons Scholarship Program is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, who are between 17 and 24 years of age, have experienced the death of a parent or legal guardian, and are currently enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a college, university or trade school within the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico. Employees of Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (“Life Happens” or “Sponsor”), Weber Shandwick, and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising, and promotion agencies, and any such employee’s immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses) and those living in their same households, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter or win a scholarship. A minor should have a parent’s or legal guardian’s permission to enter.
Special Criteria:
To enter, visit www.lifehappens.org/scholarship between 9:01 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on February 1, 2017 and 4:00 p.m. ET on March 1, 2017 (the “Entry Period”) and complete and submit the online application form, including an essay of no more than 500 words or video entry of no more than 3 minutes describing the financial and emotional challenges you have experienced as a result of the death of a parent or legal guardian. You must explain how the lack of adequate life insurance coverage (or no coverage at all) impacted your family’s financial situation. Comment specifically on how things might have turned out differently for you and your family if the person who died had adequate life insurance coverage. Also indicate what you have done to provide for yourself and/or other family members because of financial challenges your family has faced.
