Campus Based Employment
Student Employee Orientation
Federal Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program provides jobs for students with financial
need, allowing you to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program
encourages community service work and work related to your course of study.

Your total Federal work-study award depends on when you apply for financial
aid, your level of need and the funding level of the school. FWS employment
may also impact your loan availability. Please check with the financial aid
office for individualized information.
FWS jobs can either be on- or off-campus (beginning fall, 2001). If you work
on campus, you will work for a RCC department. If you work off-campus, your
employer will generally be a private non-profit organization or public agency,
and the work you perform must be in the public interest.
Learn & Earn
Students may seek employment on campus with college departments through the
Learn & Earn program at RCC. The purpose of the program is to provide job opportunities
for students in need of financial assistance that are not necessarily financial
aid eligible. Your employment is intended to be a productive learning experience.
We encourage you to choose a job that relates to your academic and occupational
goals whenever possible.
Hiring Checklist
A student employee is entered into the payroll system once the student has submitted
the following documentation:
- HAZMAT Test
- Learn and Earn Contract (Must be completed by hiring supervisor)
- Federal Work Study Contract (Must be completed by hiring supervisor)
- IRS Form W-4 (Must be completed at Student Employment Services)
- INS Form I-9 (Must be completed at Student Employment Services)
Upon completion of these documents you will be issued a timesheet by the
Student Employment Services staff.
Getting Paid and Timesheets
Record the total number of hours that you work each day on your time sheet
to the nearest quarter hour. Timecards must be completely filled out or
they will be returned to you. You MUST secure your supervisor's signature
and turn in the signed timesheet to the Student Employment Services office
by the scheduled due dates. Never sign your supervisor's name on a time
sheet, record hours you have not worked, or work more than 20 hours in one
week. Late time sheets will not be paid until the following month.
Payday is always on the last working day of the month. You may pick up
your check from the RVC or RWC cashiers. Picture ID is required.
Student Responsibilities
Remember that you are a student first and an employee second so never go
to work in a time slot that you are scheduled for class. Student Employment
Services is here to support your success at RCC. Please feel free to visit
our offices at the Redwood (JO Building) or Riverside (Wards Building) campuses
if you have additional questions or require further assistance.
