New Student Orientation

The New Student Orientation (NSO) is a one-hour mandatory information session. All students to Rogue Community College are required to attend before they are able to register for college classes. After attending a NSO, you will receive the permission to register for your first term of college courses. The NSOs are free and offered on-line and on-campus at Riverside Campus, Medford and Redwood Campus, Grants Pass.

  • If you are a or prospective student, you will need to complete the online admission application before you can sign up for a New Student Orientation.
  • You must sign up for and take a placement test prior to attending the New Student Orientation.
  • If you do not have a high school diploma or a GED, contact Adult Basic Skills before registering for classes, taking a placement test and attending the New Student Orientation.

New Student Orientations are intended to provide you with enough information to start strong at RCC, understand what to expect next, and know where to find answers to questions that come up along the way. You will also see how to navigate the RCC website, check your financial aid status, update your personal information, and register for classes.

Attending an on-campus NSO

On-campus NSOs are offered on the Redwood Campus in Grants Pass and the Riverside Campus in Medford.

  • The NSO will last one hour and is presented by RCC faculty and staff.
  • You will receive an RCC Catalog and supplies upon check-in for the NSO.
  • Following the NSO, you will be invited to attend a Registration Lab. Reg Labs are optional and staffed with RCC staff and faculty members who can help answer additional questions or refer you to the correct departments for more personalized assistance.

What can I expect on the day of an on-campus New Student Orientation?

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Students arriving late may not be admitted to the NSO and will be required to re-schedule.
  • The New Student Orientation is one hour and mandatory for all students. You are required to attend a NSO in order to register for college classes.
  • The NSO will be followed by an optional Registration Lab. Reg Labs are staffed with RCC staff and faculty members who can help answer your questions or refer you to the correct department for more personalized assistance.
  • Upon check-in, you will receive an RCC Catalog and supplies.

How do I check in?
Check-in opens 30 minutes before the NSO begins. When you arrive look for a table staffed by Discovery Programs outside the NSO room. Bring your student ID number given to you after you filled out the Online Admission Application.

Where do I Park?
You will need more than one hour of parking if you plan to also attend the Registration Lab following the NSO.

  • Parking at Redwood Campus, Grants Pass: Parking is unlimited and free on campus.
  • Parking at Riverside Campus, Medford: Free city of Medford parking is limited and you will likely have to pay for parking or walk a few blocks. Please refer to the City of Medford parking brochure for your convenience.

Attending an online NSO

On-line NSOs are offered to students for their convenience.

  • Online NSOs require computer proficiency. You must be able to operate a computer mouse and maneuver within Blackboard to click on links. Basic knowledge of how to switch between browser tabs and knowledge of how to take online quizzes and view videos is required.
  • It is recommended to use the Firefox browser, version 25.0
  • After signing up, you will be provided with instructions on how to access the on-line NSO via Blackboard.
  • The session may take up to 1.5 hours to complete.
  • Receive permission to register for RCC college courses within 24 business hours after successfully completing the session.

What can I expect during the online New Student Orientation?

  • Spend an hour to an hour and a half in the online course.
  • Read the Course Expectations in "Welcome, Start Here" module
  • Watch Student Orientation Part 1 and Part 2
  • Take and pass New Student Orientation Quizzes Part 1 and Part 2 with a 70% or higher
  • Complete evaluation
  • Ask the instructor any additional questions you may have in the "Questions and Answers" section

How do I register and take the online NSO?
After you select taking the online NSO, you will receive instructions to access the online course via Blackboard.
