Grade Point Average Calculation

Definitions:

Term GPA – Includes grades from a specific term.
Cumulative GPA – Includes grades earned while at Rogue Community College

  • The GPA is equal to the number of Grade Points (GP) divided by the number of Credit Hours (CH).
  • Credit Hours (CH) = total number of credits for courses in which a student received a grade of A, B, C, D or F (including + and - grades)
  • Grade Points (GP) = number of credit hours per course multiplied by the value of the grade received. Example values: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0
  • Courses with grades of P, NP, W, I, Z, R, Y or AU do not figure in GPA calculations
    Example: If a student earns 12 cred­its in a term that are all graded B, his/her term GPA calculation is:
    36 (GP) ÷ 12 (CH) = 3.00 term Grade Point Average
