About becoming a Personal Care Attendant
The Personal Care Attendant course is a unique partnership between Medifecta Healthcare Training and Rogue Community College, using industry curriculum that has been transformed into a teacher aided online delivery format.
Course Description: The course is designed to help the student master the skills and knowledge to enter the job market as a personal care attendant. The students will learn essential care-giving skills as well as the communication and professional skills needed when providing home care. This on-line course will utilize a variety of media: written documents, video demonstrations, and power-points.
Recommendations: Rogue Online is an integral part of the course delivery and thus access to a computer will be required on a regular basis. The minimum computing and internet access requirements for Rogue Online are listed below:
- Access to computer with audio & video
- Ability to read, type and comprehend instructions
- Send and receive email
- Basic computer skills
Basic minimum requirements for computer:
- 256Mb RAM and at least 50 Mb of available disk space for assignments and projects
- 56K modem (DSL or cable highly recommended)
- An ISP (Internet Service Provider)
- A word processing software package (Microsoft Word is a RCC standard, though Open Office is an effective substitute, available in our software downloads
A word processing software package (Microsoft Word is a RCC standard) CPR training and basic first aid training is also recommended.
Required Equipment and Materials: will be assigned on a lesson-by-lesson basis, to include such items as stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. (If employed, check with your employer to see if you can borrow any of these items.)
