About becoming a Personal Care Attendant

The Personal Care Attendant course is a unique partnership between Medifecta Healthcare Training and Rogue Community College, using industry curriculum that has been transformed into a teacher aided online delivery format.

Course Description: The course is designed to help the student master the skills and knowledge to enter the job market as a personal care attendant. The students will learn essential care-giving skills as well as the communication and professional skills needed when providing home care. This on-line course will utilize a variety of media: written documents, video demonstrations, and power-points.

Recommendations: WebCT is an integral part of the course delivery and thus access to a computer will be required on a regular basis. The minimum computing and internet access requirements for WebCT are listed below:

1. A thorough understanding of your computer operating system
2. A Pentium III PC running Windows 98SE or higher OR a Macintosh system 9 or better
3. 256Mb RAM and at least 50 Mb of available disk space for assignments and projects
4. 28.8 modem (56K or better highly recommended)
5. An ISP (Internet Service Provider)

A word processing software package (Microsoft Word is a RCC standard) CPR training and basic first aid training is also recommended.

Required Equipment and Materials: will be assigned on a lesson-by-lesson basis, to include such items as stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. (If employed, check with your employer to see if you can borrow any of these items.)
