Asante Counseling Support Services
What is the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
Employee assistance is a program available to all Full-time Faculty, Full-time Classified, Part-time Classified, and Management employees. This program offers assistance to help you cope with personal problems. The primary services offered are assessment and referral, and brief counseling.
Trained counselors help you assess and clarify your problems, and then explore what options you may have to solve them. They either help you resolve them by providing brief counseling, or assisting in a referral to a community resource.
The EAP is a department of the Asante Health System.
Is EAP Confidential?
EAP is completely confidential, and its licensed counselors are governed by public and professional rules to ensure confidentiality. Under most circumstances nothing is revealed to anyone else without your specific consent. Any exceptions to this will be reviewed with you prior to counseling.
Who is Eligible?
EAP is available to all Full-time Faculty, Full-time Classified, Part-time Classified, and Management employees, their spouses, and immediate dependents.
How Much Does it Cost?
There is no cost to you for using the EAP. However, referral to another resource for further assistance could result in a fee. In many cases these fees will be at least partially covered by your health insurance. We will make every attempt to connect you with the best and most affordable resources.
How Much Help Can EAP Provide?
Many problems can be resolved within the brief treatment limit of the EAP. Some problems, however, will require help beyond the EAP due to their nature or scope. In these instances, the counselor will assist you in getting connected with the most appropriate community resource.
What Types of Problems Can EAP Assist With?
The EAP is here to help you with any personal problem troubling you. Examples of problems we see:
· Drug and Alcohol Abuse – One of the most serious problems facing us today is alcohol/drug abuse. It is a problem that affects all aspects of one’s life including job, family, finances, health, etc.
· Marital Problems – When you experience difficulties in your most important relationship, it’s bound to spill over to other areas of your life.
· Family Problems – These could include children who are experiencing problems, or perhaps an elderly parent who is in need of specialized care.
· Grief – Losses such as divorce or death can bring us to a standstill.
· Major Illness – When you or a member of your family is ill and there is difficulty adjusting or knowing what to do.
· Life Stressors – These include major changes, or chronic problems that may have you temporarily overwhelmed.
Employee Assistance Policy
We believe that it is beneficial to both the employer and the employee to assist employees in maximizing their potential on the job. We also recognize that the health and well being of the employee and his or her family influences how an individual feels and acts. Job performance may be affected by a variety of personal problems, including: alcohol and drug abuse, family and marital problems, changes in physical health, financial and legal difficulties, and other emotional problems.
Our policy is to assist employees through a counselor and referral system which provides an opportunity for employees and their dependents to resolve their personal problems. While we encourage employees their dependents to use the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) voluntarily, we also occasionally refer employees to provide them with the opportunity to resolve personal problems which may be affecting job performance.
No employee’s job status, seniority, or promotional opportunities will be affected by requesting assistance. Strict rules of confidentiality will be observed at all times. Decisions to retain or terminate any employee, or otherwise initiate disciplinary action, will be based solely on criteria related to job performance.
We offer this Employee Assistance Program because we believe in our employees and their future.
