This year's times and locations are as follows: TBA
Information:
* If you are enrolled in RCC’s group health insurance plan,
remember to bring your Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon insurance
card to get your free flu shot. If you do not present your card, or do
not have health insurance through Regence BlueCross BlueShield, you will
have to pay the $19 fee per flu shot.
*Pneumonia shots will be available for $30. Wellness 2000
does not bill insurance for pneumonia shots. (For RCC employees, BCBS
will only cover the cost of a pneumonia shot if it is medically necessary
and obtained by your doctor.)
*Tetanus shots will be available for $17. Wellness 2000
does not bill insurance for tetanus shots.
*Anyone not covered by RCC's group health insurance through
Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon can still get flu shots, but they
will cost $19.
*Children or family members can also get flu shots if they
are covered under the same plan, they must remember to bring their insurance
card. If they are not covered under your health insurance policy, it will
cost $19.
*Children 13-17 years old must have parental consent to
receive the shots.
*Children under the age of 12 must have physician consent.
(The reason for this is that for children under 12, the flu shot is given
in two separate visits. The clinic will only administer the first shot,
and the child must receive the second shot from their physician. It may
be cheaper to get them both done by the child's physician.)
If you are not able to attend the Rogue Community College
flu shot clinics, you can still get a flu shot from a community flu shot
clinic. We have received a list of pharmacies from BlueCross BlueShield
that will be providing clinics around our area. If you receive a flu shot
from one of these clinics and have medical coverage through Regence BlueCross
BlueShield of Oregon, your flu shot will be free. All members must show
their current medical ID card to be eligible for a free flu shot. Please
note that parental consent is required for members age 13 through 17 to
receive a flu shot.
The clinics will be held between October 1, 2004 and December
31, 2004, throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. Please not that
the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Oregon Health Division recommend
that high-risk individuals get their flu shots in October. An Individual
is considered high-risk if they meet any of the following criteria:
- aged 50 years and older
- have chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart or lung conditions
(including asthma) or have weakened immune systems
- woman who will be more than three months pregnant during the flu season
- health-care workers and people who have frequent contact with high-risk
individuals.
