Driver Learner's Permit
Taught in Spanish. Covers the rules and regulations to obtain an Oregon learner's permit which is necessary to attain an Oregon driver's license or enroll in/attend any driver training course. All ages welcome. For information call Larry Blower 245-7901.

Adult Driver Training
Taught in Spanish. Includes 12 hours of one-on-one behind-the-wheel. Must have a learner's permit or driver's license. For information call For information call Larry Blower 245-7901.

Forklift Operator Safety Training
Taught in Spanish. Provides the safety training necessary for the operator to carry out the requirements of moving materials in a manner approved by OSHA. For information call Larry Blower 245-7901.

Discovery Programs:

1. Transiciones: Credit or no credit classes offered to Hispanic adults during FWS terms with two course topics. The fall and winter courses are offered at local area high schools, with have high numbers of Hispanic students, for parents to help bridge the understanding of the American educational system, both high school and college. The spring course is focused on career planning, education and training, and job search skills.

2. Oregon Leadership InstituteThis leadership and mentoring program is for Hispanic high school students and RCC students (mostly Hispanic). In a year long (FWS) program RCC students enroll in a 3-credit transfer course on leadership and mentoring that includes a weekly class and monthly Saturday academies for Hispanic secondary students. RCC student mentors design the Saturday agenda with guidance, and facilitate high school youth in a mix of engaging activities like presentations on leadership and education; problem-solving games; one-on-one time with mentees; scholarship essay development and help with college entry steps. Each session is designed to be upbeat, enthusiastic, and fast-paced. Topics are reintroduced and reinforced throughout the year to encourage reflection and foster communication and interaction. The year-long academy focuses on:

  • cultural roots and heritage
  • career and college exploration
  • taking personal responsibility for ones attitude and future
  • leadership skills includes an outdoor challenge course and graduation celebration.

3. Chamber Latino Scholarship:This is a scholarship organized by a committee assisting the Chamber Latino Network of the Medford Chamber of Commerce. Hispanic high school and college students can apply for this scholarship for any college in Oregon. A committee made up of CLN reps, RCC, SOESD, SOU, and community, partners raise money, distribute, review, applications, award money, and monitor recipients for their success each year. 4.Club Latino: This is one of the most active and largest student clubs on the Riverside Campus. There are over 15 active student members who take part in a variety of campus and community activities in Jackson County that benefit and educate the Hispanic community on a variety of issues, including educational. Most notable annual activities that the Club sponsors include:
Educación Un Mundo de Oportunidades (EMO), one day educational conference that brings high school Hispanic students from Jackson/Josephine Counties for an inspirational/educational day of speakers, workshops, demonstrations about the steps to get into College and why it is important. Educación Para Todos: spearheaded from EMO- a mini version of the high school day, but for Hispanic adults in the community. Includes a variety of the offerings at RCC for Spanish -speakers, as well as a variety of community educational resources that would be beneficial to the Hispanic community. Tammi Spencer 245.7559

La Puerta de su Futuro(Sister Margarita Acosta Scholarship) La Puerta de Su Futuro mission is to provide a pathway for under-served and under-represented populations in the Jackson-Josephine County areas, through ethnic multicultural approaches, to help improve the way education is designed and delivered. Rogue Community College , recognizing diversity as a defining characteristic of American society in the 21st century and in an effort to promote a multicultural institution, has developed "La Puerta de Su Futuro" to support our local diverse community in education. Rogue Community College and Providence Medford Medical Center through the Sister Margarita Acosta Scholarship has been established to better achieve their respective missions of service to students and patients. Over $30,000 a year in scholarships is offered to qualified students, one of them being of an ethnic cultural minority background, to pursue a career in a health-related field.
