All of the Jackson, Josephine and Klamath County high school theater students and theater teachers are invited to participate in this event. The day begins with a welcome by the Rogue Community College Theater Department Coordinator, John Cole, and then a talk by a local screen/stage actor. Students have the opportunity to ask questions and hear stories about the real world of acting, and thoroughly enjoy the interaction with a local star. Following this, students break up into groups and perform their monologue or duologue for 2 judges and a small group of peers. There are 2 rounds so that each performance is judged more than once by different observers, and then we break for lunch and tallying of the student’s scores. After lunch we have held an informal movement workshop with a local dancer/choreographer who engages all of the students in some dance and exercise and impromptu performances. This has rated high marks from both students and teachers. Everyone is then brought together where the top scoring performances are presented to the entire group on stage. We have held this event at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater in Medford, and most recently at Vibes Main One in Medford. |
