Artwork by local, regional, national, and international emerging
artists which challenges preconceived ideas and attitudes, is featured in
RCC's FireHouse Gallery. A variety of art educates and inspires viewers
from the college and community. First Friday Art Night receptions are
held monthly at the gallery.
An annual highlight of the FireHouse exhibit schedule is a one-month
showing of work donated by local artists for the Black, White & the Blues
art auction and dance.
The gallery is located at the corner of H and Fourth Streets in
the Historic City Hall, Grants Pass, Oregon. Our hours are 11:30am-4:30pm
Tuesday-Friday and 11am-2pm Saturdays or tours by appointment.

 Dates: January 4- 26, 2008 Artist: Students Title: GPHS & Boys and Girls Club Exhibit Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: mixed media Description: Artwork created by students at Grants Pass High School and the Grants Pass chapter of the Boys & Girls Club.
|  Dates: January 29 - Febuary 29, 2008 Artist: David Carmack Lewis Title: Night Scenes Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: oil on canvas Description: A mysterious beauty resonates through these paintings instilling dark reverence.
Lewis’ contrasting use of deep shadows and warm light appeals to our subconscious with the flavor of ancient folk tales.
|  Dates: March 4- 22, 2008 Artist: Heather Freeman Title: Fuzzy Pictures Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: mixed media Description: Freeman portrays the place where science meets the occult, truth meets contradiction, and spirit meets life. Using collage, language, and symbolic forms of science she conveys how we pull these public themes into our private lives.
|  Dates: April 1-25, 2008 Artist: Leslie Holt Title: Hello Kitty "Art Appreciation" series Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: oil on canvas/paper Description: In the paintings of Leslie Holt’s “Hello Kitty” series she joins together an odd juxtaposition of famous paintings with a familiar pop-culture icon. She instigates a mildly perplexed chuckle at the unusual blend of popular images.
|  Dates: April 29 - May 23, 2008 Artist: Melissa Wood Title: Sweet Layers: Hive II Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: mixed media Description: Using materials from agriculture, gardening, and beekeeping Wood’s installation explores the symbolic nature of the beehive and the production of honey. She portrays the matriarchal structure of bee society as well as their ecological influence.
|  Dates: June 6 - 27, 2008 Artist: local artists Title: Southern Oregon Art Show Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: multi-media Description: A non-juried regional art show with professional, amateur and youth categories. The art show also features a series of hands-on workshops including, metal sculpture, PMC art clay, dry pigments, resin casting, clay sculpture, mosaics, pastels, watercolor and printmaking.

|  Dates: Jul 29 - August 30, 2008 Artist: Donovan Wildmer Title: Conditional Response Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: mixed media Description: Through assemblage and metal sculpting Widmer collects and combines objects that represent an ever-changing reliance on what we once considered to be modern technology. He uses objects reminiscent of scientific and medical equipment in unique representation to express the fragility of existence and the objectification of humanity by science.
|  Dates: September 2 - 27, 2008 Artist: Bruce Barton Title: Tanks, Tide Pools and Other Bottomless Ponds Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: drawings Description: Barton uses pen and ink to capture the essence of underwater life. He focuses on the movement of the water and the fluidity of life. His line work is reminiscent of the hand-written word and exemplifies the principle that image can capture a story sometimes better than words.

Spirit of the Rogue runs in conjunction with the Art Along the Rogue street painting and music festival in downtown Grants Pass.
|  Dates: October 28 - November 19, 2008 Artist: Heather Layton Title: Thank You for Everything Gallery: FireHouse, Grants Pass Medium: oil on steel Description: This bilingual show celebrates Mexican votive painting. Together with traditional images of people praying to saints, Layton adds contemporary pieces painted in the same tradition with saints praying to the people. This show is intended to pay tribute to a culture that is rich in humility and optimism and how it is affected by globalization.
