Beyond Your Control

It is not always the most reassuring feeling to have the success of your higher education judged by a one-digit number with two decimals, the highly-acclaimed GPA. We recognize that sometimes a low GPA equates to neither a poor work ethic nor a lack of understanding of the material, but can instead be the consequence of a series of unforeseen and unavoidable life circumstances. Share how an illness or other health ailment has affected your GPA. How did you manage your classwork? Did you manage it at all? Were you concerned about your grades in the midst of the situation? Did your professor understand? Who was your support system, if you had one at all? What did your process of recovery consist of, both physically and academically? Explore these questions and more as you reflect on this experience.
