As an immigrant to America who is entirely self made and highly educated, Mr. Onwuteaka knows how greatly important a good education is. He would like to make the educational path for deserving high school and college students a bit easier. Therefore, he is pleased to offer this $400 academic scholarship annually to deserving students.

If you are planning to attend college or already are attending, you can apply for this academic scholarship. He would like to see students with a strong academic record and substantial financial need apply. Also, he encourages transfer students and people of color to apply, as well as anyone else who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance.

If you are interested in this $400 academic scholarship, please meet these standards:
•You must be a US citizen or a US permanent resident.
•You are from 17 to 50 years of age.
•You should have a high GPA and generally strong academic record.
•You are or will be a part or full time college student.
•You use Facebook and email.
Special Criteria:
All applicants for the Joseph Onwuteaka scholarship need to write a 1,000 to 3,000 word essay on one of these topics:
•If there were only one slot available for your desired college, why should the university choose you?
•Who are you?
•What accomplishments have you had in the last year that had nothing to do with academics?
•What is the most important quotation that describes your outlook on life?
•If you could read the minds of other people, would you choose to use the power and how?
•How do you think where you grew up influenced who you are today?

Essay Submission Instructions

For immediate consideration, your essay must be created entirely by you and should meet these criteria:
•Typed
•Single spaced
•Feature 12 point font
•1,000 to 3,000 words

Your application will depend heavily upon this essay, so please dedicate a great deal of time to it.
