The Competitive Scholarship is one of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde’s available funding sources for Tribal members pursuing a higher education. The scholarships are open to any enrolled Tribal member attending an accredited two or four-year college, university, trade school, or vocational school. The scholarships vary by type and are automatically renewable as long as the student continues to meet minimum academic requirements. Competitive Scholarships are offered in the following categories:

Adult Vocational Training (AVT) Scholarships Application Intended for students pursuing a program of two years or less. Full Time $6,000 per year Up to 8 terms or 24 months 4 awards per year Part Time $3,000 per year Up to 7 terms or 21 months 1 award per year
Undergraduate Scholarships Application Intended for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or associate’s degree leading to a bachelor degree. Eula Petite Scholarship Application Intended for college juniors/seniors or graduate students pursuing an Education degree. Full Time $7,000 per year. Up to 6 terms/4 semesters 1 award per year
Ray McKnight Scholarship (not offered for 2010) Intended for college juniors/seniors pursuing a Natural Resource or related degree Full Time $6,000 per year Up to 6 terms/4semesters 1 award per year
Graduate Scholarships Application Intended for students pursuing a degree at the masters or doctorate level. Full Time $13,000 per year Up to 6 terms/4 semesters 7 awards per year Part Time $5,000 per year Up to 9 terms/six semesters 1 award per year.
Deadline for all Competitive Scholarship categories is April 30 of each year, with an early bird deadline of April 1. Applicants must be enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Priority will be given to students pursuing a first postsecondary or postgraduate degree, although all interested applicants are encouraged to apply. Applications are available January 1 each year.
Welcome to the pilot year for the online Tribal Competitive Scholarships. Listed below is some basic information to guide you through the process of completing the online application. Remember, if you have any questions, you can contact Education at 1-800-422-0232 ext. 1345, or 503-879-1345.
1.Once you click the link to access the application, you will be redirected to the Spirit Mountain Community Fund (SMCF) webpage. This is not an error. The SMCF is the host site for the application. Once you create your account, you will be directed to the Competitive Scholarship application page, which time stamps with Eastern Standard Time.
2.Be sure to enter your email correctly when you set up your account. If you do not have an email address, you will need to create one before you can create an account. If you incorrectly enter your email address, there is not a way to recover your application and you will have to start it over.
3.If you need to stop your application and come back to it later, make sure you select the “save and finish later” button. If you do not click this button, any information entered on your application will not be saved and you will have to start your application over.
4.All essays are required to be submitted online. Once you get to the essay section, you will be able to access the essay template via a link. You will need to save the document to your computer and upload it to the attachments page of your application.
5.There is a required application verification/acknowledgement form that serves as your electronic signature. You will be able to access the template via a link as well. Please save the document to your computer and upload it to the attachments page of your application.
6.You will have the option to scan and attach your verification of Tribal enrollment, letters of recommendation, optional photo, and any other supplemental information. If are unable to scan this information, you can mail it the Education Office. Please address any supplemental information that is mailed attention “Scholarship Program”. However, please remember, it is your responsibility to ensure all additional information is received by the April 30 postmark deadline.
7.Transcripts must be official and can be mailed directly to Education addressed to “Scholarship Program”. Please give your school enough advance notice to have your transcript postmarked by the April 30 deadline.
***Applications received by the April 1 early bird deadline will receive one additional point to the total score. All application material must meet the April 30 postmark deadline. Online applications are time stamped with Eastern Standard Time.***
