Students pursuing a degree in the fields of Education or Communications will be given first consideration for this award.
Stan and Jayne Schmidt: Stan Schmidt, 33°, is a graduate of the University of Idaho (Bachelor of Science in Education, the University of Oregon (Master of Education in Administration), and Washington State University (Master of Arts in Speech Communication). He began his early professional career in northern Idaho as Superintendent of Schools. After six years he accepted the position of Director of Forensics at Jefferson High School in Portland where he taught for ten years and finished his career at Portland Community College (28 years) in the position of Director of Forensics and subject-area chairman of the Communications Department. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Portland for many years. He has been very active in several Masonic organizations, including the Scottish Rite as President of the Education Foundation.
Jayne Schmidt graduated from Portland State University. She taught fourth and fifth grades and was an administrative assistant at Sunnyside and Alameda Elementary Schools in the Portland School District. Jayne was a local and state president of Alpha Delta Kappa (teacher’s honorary) and a lifetime member of the Oregon Retired Teachers Association. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and The Daughters of the Nile, serving for several years as a volunteer for the Shriners Hospital.

Applicants for Scottish Rite Scholarship assistance must be bonafide residents of the State of Oregon entering as undergraduates at an accredited college, university, or trade school. Grants are made on the basis of student need. Consideration is also given for exceptional qualities of leadership.
Special Criteria:
A current transcript must accompany each application. Candidate interview is required and will be scheduled.
