Introduction to Expository Writing
Reviews the basic conventions, purposes, and strategies of college-level writing, with an emphasis on in-class writing. Course will survey a variety of rhetorical modes and prepare students for impromptu questions and essays. Prerequisites: RD30 and WR30 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart.
Discipline-specific Online Writing Lab
Focuses on writing needs specific to professional/technical programs and includes document design, memorandums, design reports, instructions, lab reports and proposals. Utilizes the OWL, which is an extensive interactive Web site focused on writing related directly to field-specific discourse conventions and professional preparedness and offers one-on-one tutoring. Prerequisite: WR115 or WR121 (may be taken concurrently).
English Composition I
Teaches students to identify and use various rhetorical strategies such as narration, description, compare/contrast, and analysis, focusing on content, organization, and clarity. Prerequisites: RD30; WR115 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart.
English Composition II
Continued emphasis on the concerns of WR121 with concentration on persuasion, logic, and style. Introduces use of the library and research methods. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart and WR121.
English Composition III
Continues focus on scholarly investigation and the proper use of sources and documentation. Major emphasis is on writing research papers which are acceptable by MLA or APA standards. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart and WR122.
Understanding English Grammar
Explores the structure of the English language as well as grammatical conventions. Increases students' awareness of the rhetorical effects on the reader. Students will be given activities and instruction with the purpose of being able to proofread and edit their own writing. Prerequisite: RD30 and WR30.

Explores special topics in writing including novel and journal writing as well as discipline-specific discourse conventions and professional preparedness.
Technical Report Writing
Designed for students planning to enter professions that require researching and organizing data and presenting written documents with worthwhile content, sensible organization, readable style, and appropriate form. Technical writing also fulfills transfer needs for students whose four-year transfer institution requires technically formatted documents. Class is writing intensive and requires extensive time in research and writing outside of class. Computer application of skills is expected. Prerequisites: BA214 or WR122; CS125ww recommended. Public speaking ability is an asset; graphics ability or desktop publishing skills strongly recommended.
Imaginative Writing I, II, III
Offers students opportunities to express themselves through literary mediums. Students study models of short stories, poetry, personal memoirs, and do original work in each of these genres. Includes analysis and discussion of students’ work. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test score on current indicator chart; WR121 (may be taken concurrently).
